Lot 1344
1926. PCGS graded MS-65 PQ. CAC Approved. Well struck with even golden toning. Lightning-bolt fresh mint luster and its rich, variegated golden color. The strike, as expected from the MS65 grade, is faithful to every detail from a full blow by the dies. Pop 626; 43 finer, 3 in 65, 40 in 66 (PCGS # 7950) .
Estimated Value $2,300 - 2,400.
This is part of the #3 ranked PCGS Registry Set.

Lot 1345
1926. PCGS graded MS-65. Well struck with even rich golden toning on both sides. A lovely gem specimen. Almost always razor sharp. The fully brilliant gem we now hand over bidders beats (from a technical angle) practically all of the MS65s that have passed through the various grading services. Unlike the usual survivor from the 'teens with its diminished impression left by a weak blow of the dies on some of the headdress feathers, this handsome 1926 specimen struck during America's Roaring Twenties is very sharp from top to bottom, center to edge (PCGS # 7950) .
Estimated Value $2,200 - 2,300.

1927. PCGS graded MS-65 PQ. CAC Approved. Nice light even gold toning. A coin that should be MS66. Housed in an OGH. Effusive, one might say even overgenerous mint frost in amounts so copious it borders on sinful, with warm flaxen-gold to orange-gold color. Desirable with this meticulous strike. Pop 378; 20 finer, 3 in 65+, 17 in 66 (PCGS # 7951) .
Estimated Value $2,400 - 2,500.

1927. NGC graded MS-65. Frosty and untoned. Intensely blazing luster explodes like a golden fire storm on the gleaming, brilliant surfaces of this above-average gem. A blaze of frosty gold highlights the topmost feathers on the Indian's portrait, with similar splashes on the eagle on the reverse. Pop 379; 9 finer in 66 (PCGS # 7951) .

1928. PCGS graded MS-65 PQ. CAC Approved. Nice even gold toning. Fully pulsating with lovely orange-gold color, the surfaces are free of bothersome striking incompleteness. Indeed, struck with exactitude by the dies. Pop 275; 11 finer, 1 in 65+, 10 in 66 (PCGS # 7952) .

1928. PCGS graded MS-65. Light golden toning. Always frosty for the issue when high quality Mint State, as seen here, the mellow-gold surface is nearly superb with few distracting bagmarks. We note a couple under the Indian's nose and at the throat. Furthermore, unlike the general run of pieces of this caliber, the strike is extremely convincing in all places, even where some weakness is expected at the feather ends. Pop 269; 1 in 65+; 10 in 66 (PCGS # 7952) .

Historic Note: To get some idea what a $2.50 gold coin was worth in 1928, a new edition (hardbound) of Albert Jay Nock's biography "Jefferson" had a cover price of $2.75 that year.
Estimated Value $2,200 - 2,300.

Lot 1358
1929. PCGS graded MS-65. Housed in an OGH. Rich golden toning. Splendidly original with exceptional clean surfaces and thick mint frost. Subtly variegated patina adds even more to the overall appeal of this high grade piece. The pressure transmitted from the die to the blank reveals itself in sharp devices. Both the Indian $2.50 and $5.00 denominations ceased production after 1929’s coinage. However, the $10 and $20 gold was struck on into 1933 before minting of United States gold coins was suspended until 1986. Pop 112; 3 finer, 2 in 66, 1 in 67 (PCGS # 7953) .

Historic note: The United States went off the Gold Exchange Standard (1925-33) in 1933. A substitute Dollar-Gold standard was implemented after World War II and went by the name of the Bretton Woods system (1944-73). Today, the world's economies run on what can best be described as a Non-standard, or perhaps Faith-based Standard, without any definitive "backing" of the monetary units.
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000.

1929. NGC graded MS-64 CAC Approved. A nice frosty example. The deeply struck, gleaming surfaces are draped in vibrant reddish-golden patina and show minimal abrasions, hence the CAC approval. A sharp impression was left by the recoil of the dies that struck this 1929 Quarter Eagle, the last year of issue in the set (PCGS # 7953) .
