1909-S. VDB. PCGS graded MS-65 Red CAC Approved. A beautiful light Mint Red example of this popular Key Date. In an OGH. A dazzling full red gem with remarkable sharpness for the date. Extremely desirable this nice and tied with a fair number but not too many in its grade classification; numerical grade 65 in the full red category is where 1909-S V.D.B. really shines. The color on this coin is a marvelous light hue and there is almost zero evidence of mellowing. It would not surprise us at all if this coin set a strong record for the grade (PCGS # 2428) . Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000. View details and enlarged photos Check results on similar lots

1909-S. VDB. PCGS graded MS-65 Red. Well struck with deep Mint Red colors. In a 1st generation holder. This coin is without question well struck for a first-year Lincoln Cent. And a gem! In fact, there are no areas of the design that are not fully detailed. What’s more, the surfaces are aglow with frosty textured, vibrant luster. Nothing at all stands between this attractive example and an even higher grade. Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000. View details and enlarged photos

1913. PCGS graded Proof 64 Red & Brown. Some flyspecks. Only 2,983 Proofs struck. Matte Proofs were struck in 1909-16. The types of coin designs in this period (Lincoln cent, Buffalo nickel, Mercury dime, etc.) did not permit the making of bright finish or brilliant Proof specimens. It seems that the face of the die touches almost every part of the planchet on the Victor D. Brenner cents, dulling the surface of even a polished blank. Proof coins of the series therefore were issued with a matte or sandblast finish. It was not until the 1930s that the mint developed a technique (still challenging) of creating polished mirror Proofs. A rare opportunity to acquire a choice Red and Brown Proof of 1913. Pop 123; 86 finer (PCGS # 3316) . Estimated Value $400 - 450. Ex: Garrett Collection. View details and enlarged photos Check results on similar lots

1914-D. NGC graded MS-65 Red. Well struck with lots of Mint Red color starting to tone down. In an older holder. Little discussion is needed for this famous coin since the 1914-D is the key regular issue in the Lincoln Cent series. While fewer '09-S VDB Cents may have been produced, far fewer '14-D Cents were saved at the time of issue. Collectors should bear this in mind. The 1914-D is also an issue in which is unusual to find with glowing red surfaces. This piece has lovely soft mint luster and is nearly flawless. Close inspection with a loupe reveals a couple of tiny marks on each side, with two on Lincoln’s beard being the most noteworthy but scarcely deserving your attention. There are no spots to distract the viewer, indeed nothing untoward even noticeable to the unaided eye. Fully struck also. Pop 19; 5 in 66 RD. Estimated Value $10,000 - 12,000. |
1914-D. PCGS graded MS-62 Red & Brown. CAC Approved. Well struck with streaks of mottled toning on the reverse. Immediately noticeable here is the sharp strike on Lincoln's portrait, with hair curls complete. Mintage was low, but few collectors were aware of it at the time, and so most entered circulation. Mint States are elusive at all levels (PCGS # 2472) . Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,400. View details and enlarged photos Check results on similar lots

1914-S. ICG graded MS-65 Red. Our grade is MS-64+ Red. Although sometimes lost in the mist of its more famous '14-D cousin, the 1914-S is, all the same, a rarity in high grade. This is even more so the case when combined with original Mint Red color throughout, as indicated here. Further testament to its superior preservation, the sharp devices on either side. Razor-sharp, in fact including the kernels in the wheat ears. Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,200. View details and enlarged photos

1922. No D. Strong Reverse. NGC graded AU-58 Brown. Chocolate brown surfaces with an excellent strike and full reverse. Only a tinge of light friction keeps this piece from mint state status. Choice smooth surfaces on both sides without the usual little problems like marks or carbon: exactly what the doctor ordered, and on display here! All around a pleasing coin worthy of the specialist's consideration. Pop 24; 28 finer, 9 in 61, 10 in 62, 8 in 63, 1 in 64 (PCGS # 3287) . Estimated Value $6,000 - 6,500.
