Pamphylia, Aspendos, c. 300-250 BC. AR Stater (10.47 g). Two wrestlers grappling; between them letters. Reverse: Slinger standing right; in right field, forepart of horse and "K". SNG von Aulock 4571. Extremely Fine.

These later issues of Aspendos are seldom found from such fresh dies and so well struck.

Kingdom of Armenia. Tigranes II, 83-69 BC. AR Tetradrachm (15.97 g). Draped bust right of Tigranes II wearing Armenian tiara ornamented with star between eagles. Reverse: The Tyche of Antioch seated right on rock, holding palm with the river-god Orontes swimming at her feet. Houghton (ACNAC) 397; Dewing 2649. Very rare. Nicely toned and of good metal. Extremely Fine.

Tigranes II was victorious over the Seleukid king Philip Philadelphos, and ruled the kingdom for 14 years until he was defeated by the Roman general Lucullus.

The earlier dated issues often display a more concise style and composition, as in this example.
