Lot 1428
1925-D. NGC graded MS-65. Even golden toning on both sides, the coin is bright with gold-on-gold somersaulting luster whose radiance over both sides of this cleanly original example must be seen to be appreciated. A munificent strike, as well as freedom from the usual clash marks typical for this issue where insufficient die pressure occurs all too often. And that is why this is a coin to jump at before it's sale is history. One of only three Denver Mint strikes in the 15-coin Indian Quarter Eagle series, 1911-D, 1914-D, and 1925-D (PCGS # 7949) .
Estimated Value $2,400 - 2,500.

Lot 1429
1925-D. NGC graded MS-64 CAC Approved. Frosty and quite choice with pleasing golden toning. The surfaces exhibit eye-opening striking definition. All minute detail fully evident on this bold '25-D, the final release of a Quarter Eagle from this Colorado mint. Both the peripheries and the central areas are impressive for their fresh color, and the lustrous textured surfaces are glistening (PCGS # 7949) .

Lot 1434
1926. PCGS graded MS-65. Well struck with even rich golden toning on both sides. A lovely gem specimen. Almost always razor sharp. The fully brilliant gem we now hand over bidders beats (from a technical angle) practically all of the MS65s that have passed through the various grading services. Unlike the usual survivor from the 'teens with its diminished impression left by a weak blow of the dies on some of the headdress feathers, this handsome 1926 specimen struck during America's Roaring Twenties is very sharp from top to bottom, center to edge (PCGS # 7950) .
Estimated Value $2,500 - 2,700.

Lot 1435
1926. PCGS graded MS-65. A frosty fresh two-tone gem with a tiny toning spot on the reverse. The blazing golden surfaces are smooth from rim to rim with no copper spots to report. Sharply struck and fully lustrous, both sides possess eye appeal to spare. In this way, from first to last, the luster glows. Furthermore, from center to periphery, the strike as keen as any seen on this generally well-made issue from 1926. Pop 610; 43 finer (PCGS # 7950) .
Estimated Value $2,500 - 2,700.

1927. NGC graded MS-65. Frosty and untoned. Intensely blazing luster explodes like a golden fire storm on the gleaming, brilliant surfaces of this above-average gem. A blaze of frosty gold highlights the topmost feathers on the Indian's portrait, with similar splashes on the eagle on the reverse. Pop 379; 9 finer in 66 (PCGS # 7951) .

1928. PCGS graded MS-65. Light golden toning. Always frosty for the issue when high quality Mint State, as seen here, the mellow-gold surface is nearly superb with few distracting bagmarks. We note a couple under the Indian's nose and at the throat. Furthermore, unlike the general run of pieces of this caliber, the strike is extremely convincing in all places, even where some weakness is expected at the feather ends. Pop 269; 1 in 65+; 10 in 66 (PCGS # 7952) .

Historic Note: To get some idea what a $2.50 gold coin was worth in 1928, a new edition (hardbound) of Albert Jay Nock's biography "Jefferson" had a cover price of $2.75 that year.
Estimated Value $2,100 - 2,200.

1929. NGC graded MS-65. Mostly frosty and untoned. The surfaces are sleek and glowing with a healthy show of gold color. Everywhere there is brilliance. What one sees usually on this year's coinage is a slightly unconvincing impression left by the recoil of the dies; greatly to our pleasure and the bidders' enjoyment, on the other hand, that is scarcely the case here. This coin is sharp. Pop 185; 2 finer in 66 (PCGS # 7953) .
Estimated Value $2,100 - 2,200.

1929. NGC graded MS-64 CAC Approved. A nice frosty example. The deeply struck, gleaming surfaces are draped in vibrant reddish-golden patina and show minimal abrasions, hence the CAC approval. A sharp impression was left by the recoil of the dies that struck this 1929 Quarter Eagle, the last year of issue in the set (PCGS # 7953) .

1929. PCGS graded MS-63. Nice and frosty, this is the final year in which the mint struck Quarter Eagles. By the 1920s, small denomination gold coins weren't used much in day to day transactions since paper money (backed by gold or silver) satisfied the public with its ease of use (PCGS # 7953) .
