Lot 1173
State of Massachusetts Bay Treasury Certificate, 1779 75 Pounds. PCGS Apparent Very Fine 20. This attractive example bears the famous pine tree vignette, encircled by a rattlesnake, in the upper left corner. It is payble for 75 Pounds, at 6% interest, on Jan. 1, 1780. It is listed as Anderson 18 in his book The Price of Liberty, and was one of only 500 examples of this type issued to pay officers in the Massachusetts state forces. Anderson lists it as "Rarity-5." A few minor edge and internal splits are noticed by PCGS Currency, as are a couple of insignificant hinge repairs on the back.
