Dow, Charles H (1951-1902) Financial reporter who with his partner Edward Jones co-founded Dow Jones & Company and "The Wall Street Journal." Document Signed "Charles H. Dow" twice as Trustee on the verso. A $500 bond bearing 6% interest of The Amity Canal, Reservoir & Improvement Co., April 1, 1891. Very fine.

[Field, Cyrus W.]. Souvenir section of the first trans-Atlantic telegraph cable from 1858, 4 x ¾ in. Banded in brass at both ends, where the core structure can be seen. Accompanied by a printed letter, datelined New York, Aug. 21st 1858, which states, "This is to certify that I have sold the balance of the Atlantic Telegraph Cable now on board of the U.S.S.F. 'Niagara' to Messrs. Tiffany & Co. Jewellers No. 550 Broadway of this city, and that the piece which accompanies this, is a genuine section thereof. Cyrus W. Field." Field (1819-1892) was the driving force behind the first trans-Atlantic telegraph cable, which was laid by the U.S.S.F. Niagara and completed on August 5, 1858. The cable broke three weeks later and lasting connections were not finalized until 1866. Tiffany & Co. bought a quantity of unused cable from Field and cut it into sections to be sold as souvenirs.

Morgan, John Pierpont (1837-1913) American financier, banker, and art collector. Document Signed "J. Pierpont Morgan" as Trustee of the New Jersey Junction Railroad, June 30, 1886. A beautifully engraved $1,000 Bond Certificate issued in 1886 with coupons present from February 1887 to February 1986. Printed by the American Banknote Company. Ornate border with a vignette of a harbor scene with numerous ships and another showing rail and maritime traffic with a paddle wheeler sailing up the Hudson river. Signed by the company's officers, including Morgan and H.C. Fahnestock on the verso as Trustees. Fine.

Rockefeller, John D (1839-1937) American oil magnate; founder of Standard Oil Company; philanthropist. Document Signed "J.D. Rockefeller" as President of Standard Oil Trust, August 10, 1886. An ornate, partly-engraved Stock Certificate for 100 shares issued to George H. Hopper. Countersigned by Henry M. Flagler as Secretary and by Benjamin Brewster as Treasurer. Brewster was one of the original trustees and one of the five original incorporators of Standard Oil. This brown, black and white variety is scarcer than the green, black and white more frequently seen. The 100-share amount is engraved several times, rather than the share amount being entered in manuscript as on the green certificates. The stub is attached, and the transfer has been completed on the reverse. Excellent signatures with no pen cancellation through them as is often found. Fine.
