A Very Desirable Nathaniel Hawthorne Inscribed Visiting Card (1804-1864) American Novelist, author of the classic novel The Scarlet Letter (1850). Inscribed Visiting Card Signed. 3¼ x 1 3/4", on off-white card stock. A personal and unique visiting card from this masterful American novelist, bearing small imprinted type with a gothic cast. Hawthorne has identified the card as being "for Mr. Lentre," in pencil below his printed name, and inscribed the card on the verso as follows: "Dear Mr. Lentre, I am going to [ ? ], and shall not be back to keep my engagement on Monday. Please excuse me. Yours most sincerely, Nath' Hawthorne."

Author of A Farewell to Arms (1929), The Old Man and the Sea (1952), and others. Awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. Inscribed Visiting Card Signed. Approximately 3 x 1½", on cream card stock. Hemingway uses this card to accompany a gift that he presents to some close friends. He has crossed out the "Mr." that appears before his printed name to personalize the card, and inscribes: "Dear Bud and Helen : Hope you find these funny - Best always - Ernest ."

I had a friend in the OSS whose team entered the Reichstag early on. Upon seeing signed documents throughout, they placed the material in boxes and sent them 'home'. When my friend died, his widow called to ask my help with some of the material. In gratitude, she gave me the Hitler cards. -- Gerry Burg.

The Ultimate Harry Houdini Inscribed Visiting Card (1874-1926) American Magician and Escape Artist. Inscribed Visiting Card Signed. 3 x 2", on manila card stock. An engraved portrait adorns the right portion of Houdini's calling card, which brandishes the printed name "Houdini" at upper left, and gives the elusive magicians "permanent" address at bottom left. Houdini has written a playful inscription on the verso of the card in bright green ink which reads: "Only Judy will be able to open this chest! Houdini." Also includes an inscribed Calling card from Houdini's wife, Beatrice. Two water spots are evident in the inscription, one affecting the J in "Judy", the other is located on the H in "Houdini."
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.
While visiting an antique store in San Diego, I saw an old frame with the Houdini card which I, of course purchased. -- Gerry Burg.
