The Jewish War. AR Shekel (13.67 g) dated year 4 (69/70 CE). Temple vessel with rim decorated with nine pearls; above, date. Reverse: Stem with three pomegranate fruits. Mesh. 158. H-665. An absolutely beautiful specimen, sound metal with no signs of corrosion. Lightly toned and Extremely Fine. Always in demand and Very Rare.

As the Jewish War continued, coinage became more difficult, accounting for fewer and fewer shekels and divisions being minted. Full shekels are very rare, with only a handful of silver half shekels being unearthed. Much more often seen are the subdivisions struck in bronze dated year four.

Tetrastyle façade of the Temple of Jerusalem; within the middle of the Temple interior, the Ark of the Covenant in chest form. Reverse: Lulav thrice bound; to left, etrog. Mild 9 [10 examples cited]; AJC 229; H-686. Lustrous, Nearly Mint State. Very Rare.

Probably struck over a tetradrachm of Trajan. This obverse die (inscription: "Jerusalem") was utilized for both year One and year 2 production. The reverse die, however, is a "pure" year 2 issue with reverse inscription "Year 2 of the Freedom of Israel."
