Christ seated facing on square-backed throne, wearing nimbus cr. and holding book of Gospels. Rev. Facing stg. figures of Theodore, on l., and St. Theodore, on r., holding between them long staff surmounted by star, the emperor wearing crown, divitision and jeweled loros and holding sheathed sword, the saint nimbate and in military attire and also holding sheathed sword. DOC 2.3-4; Hendy pl. 30, 2-3; Sear-Bendall 2064. Extremely Fine/good very fine.

(orans), star in lower field to l. Rev. Christ Chalkites, nimbate, stg. facing on footstool, holding book of Gospels. DOC 4.2, p. 537, 1; Hendy -; Sear-Bendall 2148. Good extremely fine and very rare.

An alternative attribution of this type has been proposed by Simon Bendall who would prefer to regard it as an early issue of the mint of Trebizond, on the southern coast of the Black Sea, struck under Andronicus I Gidon, emperor of Trebizond 1222-1235.
