Lot 4456
GERMANY-BRANDENBURG-AUGSBACH. Taler, 1779-G. Dav-2019; KM-315. Alexander. One of the most striking silver coins we have ever catalogued. The design, being fully detailed especially on the multiple shields, makes for a dramatic explosion of regal symbolism on the reverse. Among it all, the fields sparkle with life. The portrait side is more subtle, but just as lovely. The bust, being shallowly engraved, takes some study to realize how pleasing it really is. Yet it's probably the color of the coin that truly steals the show. It's a rainbow of golden iridescence, mellow and even in a way, dramatic and sparkling as you rotate the piece in your fingers. In all, a fabulously preserved treasure of a coin!. Uncirculated.
Estimated Value $600 - 800.
Purchased from Ira S. Reed, 2/27/46 for $11.50.
