Space Models, "Conestoga IV Launch Vehicle" Model (18x3", 14x7") This UNIQUE 1:40 scale model was built by Space Services, Inc., at the request of NASA. The model was displayed, alongside other NASA launch vehicle models at the 1989 Paris Airshow, and at other US and foreign launch vehicle conferences over the years. Mounted on a thick base (21x12") with descriptive engraved name plate, the model consists of a two part rocket as well as a separate, articulated trailer. When SSI was acquired by another company in 1991, the model was loaned to them for additional display. It was returned to the consignor in 1996 in whose possession it has remained ever since.
Space Services, Inc. was formed by Deke Slayton (President) and Peter Armitage (VP, Programs and Conestoga Program Manager) after their retirement from NASA. The company was the first private company to pursue the design and operation of space boosters for small payload delivery. The model comes in a fitted Samsonite hard sided suitcase with a large "Starfire" rocket decal on one side. This model will make an important addition to any collection.
Estimated Value $3,500 - 5,000.
Ex. the NASA Senior Executive Peter Armitage collection.

Space Model, "Space Shuttle Payload" Model (15x4.5") This Martin Marietta, two-part contractor's model is mounted on a wooden base (18x7x.75") with a two-part engraved metal plaque. This utterly magnificent model is made of lucite, wood and metal and is highly detailed, even to the "Payload Specialists" working in one part of the model and the movable telescope (?) on the other. This model was designed as an Atmospheric Science Facility by the company and would have taken up almost the entire payload bay of the Shuttle. For many years, this model was on display in the office of the consignor who was the Asst. Director for Space and Life Sciences at JSC.
Possibly unique and an extremely important model to any collector.
