1889-CC Morgan Dollar. ANACS graded MS-62. Housed in the newer ANACS holder. Well struck with light golden toning around the edges. Semi-reflective surfaces on both sides. Even if it wasn't one of the key date Carson City Morgan dollars, this beautiful coin would be an eagerly contested item when bidding begins. The coin is nicely lustrous with reflective quality in the fields. Fully struck with strong detail even in the usually suspect centers. Despite a few trivial hairlines and marks, this coin is seemingly conservatively graded by ANACS (PCGS # 7190) .

1889-O Morgan Dollar. NGC graded MS-66. Stunning deep blue and golden toning on both sides. The surfaces are fresh and original from the lovely mint frost that swirls below on both sides to the incredible toning. Struck with preciseness only now and then found. The '86-O is one of the most significant condition rarities among all New Orleans dollars. Near-Gems can be had on occasion but true gems are very scarce and full-blown Superb Gems like this are almost non-existent. This is a particularly attractive example whose surfaces are satin smooth. There are no obvious abrasions on either side. This piece really represents excellent future fame when it is resold, and should be a fantastic alternative to one of the lesser Gems that have been certified. Quite a remarkable specimen. Pop 5; none finer (PCGS # 7192) .

1889-S Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-65. A nice white coin. This is a pleasing, highly lustrous Gem with virtually no grade-limiting luster grazes. Clockwork precision seen in the sharp hair below the cap and on the eagle's chest and wings makes it a desirable specimen as well (PCGS # 7194) .

Lot 1059
1890-CC Morgan Dollar. NGC graded MS-66. Dramatic shades of violet and electric blue on both sides combined with semi reflective surfaces. First and foremost, a conditionally challenging CC-mint Morgans from the early 1890s in Gem condition, the '90-CC is a noteworthy find as Mint State 66. Although coins dribbled out of government storage in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, the 1890-CC was not heavily represented until the GSA sales of the 1970s. We do not know at what point in time the present example first surfaced in the numismatic community, but there can be little question that it is among the most appealing survivors at the MS66 level we have been privileged to offer. The surface preservation is outstanding for the grade with few bagmarks of any size. The luster quality is no less impressive, being frosty in texture with swirling cartwheel effects below the mouthwatering toning. The toning is just that, fresh, delectable, and beautiful, the outward appearance is pleasingly original. Pop 2; none finer (PCGS # 7198) .

1891-CC Morgan Dollar. NGC graded MS-64. Nice frosty coin. The silvery hue reciprocates between levels of frost and satin-texture. Lot 1069
1892-S Morgan Dollar. Sharpness of MS-63 Prooflike. Well struck with a hint of light golden toning. Small pin scratch across Liberty's neck. There are also a few light hairlines visable in the fields on both sides. A very rare date in high grade.

Many times it has been said that the key date '92-S Morgan dollar was never obtainable in large numbers after date and mintmark collecting took hold with numismatists in the 1930s. While reasonably cheap and available in circulated grades, there are just too few true Mint States for the growing cadre of collectors to obtain an example in Mint condition. As a result, "almost there" About Uncirculated examples have been put forward as "Uncirculated" in the past to supply this shortage.

When the San Francisco Mint dispersed numerous bags of silver dollars starting in the forties and fifties, few if any 1892-S single coins were included, let alone an entire bag. Later, the Treasury Department released millions of silver dollars that also yielded few or no '92-S dollars in mint condition. It is perhaps what many suppose that most of the coins originally made were placed into circulation at the time of issue. A prime opportunity for the astute buyer to acquire a glittering prooflike example of the famous 1892-S Dollar (PCGS # 7218) .
Estimated Value $13,000 - 14,000.

1893-S Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded AU-53. An untoned example with plenty of luster remaining. Popular key-date and lacking from most collections. This uncommonly choice grade example of this well known Morgan dollar issue should attract a lot of attention from bidders. The surfaces are shaded a light silvery gray with complete absence of spotting or tarnish. Both the hair over Liberty's ear and the eagle's breast feathers are nicely detailed. Minimal abrasions, as About Uncirculated dollars are more inclined to be than baggy Uncirculated ones, though we detect a small mark at about the jaw line below the ear. On the reverse, a light hairline crosses the field below S - OF. Choice rims. Bold date and mintmark. Pop 56; 68 finer at PCGS.

Lot 1076
1893-S Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded AU-53. Untoned with plenty of luster still intact. Popular key date and always in demand. The nicely bright surfaces on both sides show luster throughout the main devices, extending into the fields. Important key date Morgan Dollar. A worthwhile rarity by any standard, the luster is still intact in a more than just the protected regions around the letters and devices, while smooth light silvery gray color predominates and no toning spots as sometimes blossom on these like dandelions in the springtime. No, this coin has the look that collectors like. It has the absence of marks on Liberty's cheek that pays dividends when the time arrives to sell. Furthermore, the strike, like the surface freshness, is confident, full, indeed, as bold as any seen. Only 100,000 were minted. Most wore extensively in circulation. The few high grade pieces soon get snapped up. Pop 56; 68 finer (PCGS # 7226) .

1893-S Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded AU-50. Well struck with some traces of mint luster. Light silvery-grey. Another choice high grade example of this desirable Morgan dollar rarity. Only the lightest wear is seen at the highpoints of Liberty's hair and on the eagle's chest and wings. The 1893-S is, one needs no reminding, the key business strike date in the Morgan series. Collectors aspiring to own a date and mintmark set will find that the 1893-S, while fairly obtainable at a price in grades from Good through Extremely Fine, is nevertheless a challenge in true About Uncirculated condition. They are seldom offered, which explains the price difference between Extremely Fine and About Uncirculated conditions (PCGS # 7226) .

1893-S Morgan Dollar. NGC graded AU-50. Only 100,000 pieces minted. Untoned. This high grade key issue displays a uniform silvery finish with attractive surface preservation including the important area of Liberty's cheek. No offending rim bumps are reported. The grade might be a trifle conservative, in fact, but then an important coin nevertheless calls for nothing less since the demand for high grade '93-S dollars far surpasses the immediately available stock of such pieces. 1893-S Morgan Dollar. NGC graded AU-50. Only 100,000 pieces minted. Some luster still intact around the devices. Untoned. Well struck and retaining its beautiful original light silver color is seen throughout Liberty and the fields around and corresponding locations on the reverse. The '93-S dollar is, of course, the mainstay of Morgan dollar collecting, fairly obstinate when it comes to wheedling out a higher grade specimen from the buckets of more worn examples that pervade the coin bourses. Strictly graded AU pieces like this are seldom offered nowadays. Even with the five-fold spread in price between EF and AU condition the collecting demand for the latter continues to strengthen. We are pleased to offer several very attractive AU specimens in the sale with this coin right up there in terms of aesthetic appeal and freedom from injury. Pop 71; 106 finer (PCGS # 7226) .

1894 Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64. A well struck frosty white mint beauty. In an old green label holder and a Premium Quality coin for the grade. Only 110,000 minted and seldom do such choice uncirculated examples enter the market. The details on this remarkable specimen are unusually snappy for an 1894 P-mint issue, with bright white luster (not the usual creamy smooth but often lifeless bloom off the dies) and with outstanding "depth" in the keen, sharp strike. This is very evident in the centers. Pop 225; 23 finer with 19 in 65, 4 in 66. (PCGS # 7228) .

1894 Morgan Dollar. NGC graded MS-63. Nice and frosty with a hint of light gold toning around the edges. Frosted glass luster and impressive fields given the modest '63 grade of this piece. The luster dances across the surface in the familiar way seen on Morgan silver dollars; collectors call this effect a cartwheel spin, and it is very impressive here. 1895-O Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-61. Lightly toned. A very scarce date in Mint State. The strike on this issue is nearly always dull and uninspiring, and the present Mint State is a pleasing exception. The obverse and reverse are both silvery, as struck, with all devices showing exactitude from a full blow by the dies. Nearly unobtainable in strictly Uncirculated condition, the 1895-O is one of the few dates in the Morgan dollar series that approximates the rarity in Mint State of the celebrated 1892-S and 1893-S. All the necessary conditions for an attractive, high grade dollar seem to have pulled the rug out from under the 1895-O. A typical example shows mediocre luster, many scratches, and a anemic strike. This brilliant coin has a fresh, satiny, metallic sheen to it over both sides. Pop 28; 73 finer (PCGS # 7236) .
