Lot 4994
1896, $2 Silver Certificate. CGA Gem Uncirculated 67. . Fr-248. . KL-129. The 1896 Educational series Silver Certificates are at the top of the list in terms of beauty and aesthetic appeal in the entire run of large size U.S. Currency, and the $2 issue is no exception. This exquisite example shows why these notes are so highly valued as works of art in addition to their numismatic appeal, as the engraving details and design elements are incredibly vivid and bold. Original embossing is evident through the holder, and the margins are as broad as is ever seen on this issue. An exceptional piece, with a tiny repaired pinhole in the bottom margin just to the right of center being the only defect that is mentioned solely for the sake of accuracy.

The allegorical scene: Science (center) presents Steam and Electricity (the two children) to the more mature figures of Commerce (left) and Manufacture (right).
Estimated Value $15,000 - 20,000.

Lot 4998
1899, $2 Silver Certificate. PCGS Gem New 65. . Fr-258. . KL-139. This broadly margined Gem appears nicer than even the lofty Gem grade assigned by PCGS, as light embossing is evident even through the holder and the centering and margins are far above average for the issue. This design type is always popular in high grades. The first of two consecutive examples.
Estimated Value $2,200 - 2,300.

Lot 5000
1899, $5 Silver Certificate. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64. . Fr-280. . KL-250. The bold colors and bright inks on this Indian Chief give it eye appeal that surpasses its already high numerical grade. The paper is a little flat, hence the lack of the "EPQ" designation from PMG, but all that prevents a higher grade is a tiny corner tip fold in the upper right margin.
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,500.
