During this period, there were many types of Venetian coins of varying finenesses and standards circulating concurrently. The Ducato was a small crown size coin having a net weight of .6217 of an ounce of silver, thus a 100 Ducati banknote represented a considerable sum of money rarely seen by the average Venetian, especially in the turbulent times of that era.
