Italy. Beneventum. Gisulf II (?), c. 742-751 AD. Gold Tremissis (1.33 g), 742 AD. Scarce. Crowned, draped and mantled bust facing, holding mappa and globus cruciger. Reverse: Cross potent, flanked by G and DVX monogram; VICΔ - ΔSTV / CONOB. Cf. BMC p. 163, 5 var. (legends different); MEC --. Finely centered and struck, with reddish toning. Extremely Fine.

Lombard Kings. Pseudo-Imperial Coinage: Alboin - Cleph - Interregnum, c. 568-584 AD. AR Half Siliqua (0.64 gm). Rare. Struck in the name of Justin II (565-578 AD). Draped and diademed bust right; DNIVSTI - NVSPPΛ[VI?]. Reverse: Chi Rho - Cross Patée, with two stars flanking, all within imperial wreath. BMC p. 126, 17 (same dies, earlier state); cf. MEC 297, but in the name of Justinian I. Good strike on choice metal. Darkly toned. A very good example of this issue. About Extremely Fine.

Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: Victory stands frontal, head left, holding wreath and globus cruciger; VNTORIA AVIVITORVN / C ONOR. MEC 303 var.; BMC p. 128, 24; Arslan 7 var. Excellent strike; sharp and lustrous. The die work on this issue more elegant than typical. Superb Extremely Fine.

Small rim bump at bottom, otherwise delightful style for this series. Nearly Mint State.

Reverse: St. Michael, nimbate and winged, stands left holding long cross; barbarized inscription. MEC 322 var.; Bernareggi, ML 152, 8; Fr-942 (Pavia). Perfectly centered and finely struck, on large flan. Faint graffiti "V" on obverse. Rare, more so in this quality. NGC graded Choice Uncirculated.
