Panama Canal - Three Early Panoramic Views. Two 10" x 53½" photos are by E. Goldbeck, c. 1914. One is "Bird's Eye View of Cristobal & Colon," Photo No. 1233, and the other is "Gatun Locks - Panama Canal," Photo No. 1234, both for the National Photo & News Service, San Antonio, Texas. The French had begun the project in 1880, but failed due to disease and costs. This shot is remarkable in that it shows Gatun Lake, which was created as part of the canal building process. It was the largest lake in the world at the time. A third panoramic photo, 9" x 33", shows an "enormous slide in Culebra Cut, Panama Canal." Some toning, else fine.
