Fuchida, Mitsuo (1902-1976) Japanese pilot who led the attack on Pearl Harbor. 1960 FDS honoring the centennial of the Japanese-American Treaty of Amity and Commerce, signed by Fuchida in English and Japanese, with "Luke 23:34" added by Fuchida, a reference to the biblical passage, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." Very fine.

Gõring, Hermann (1893-1946) Leading member of the Nazi Party and commander of the Luftwaffe; tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity at Nuremberg and sentenced to hang, but committed suicide (by a potassium cyanide capsule) the night before he was scheduled to die. 5½" x 3½" PS dated "1929" in black ink across Gõring's chest. The chest-up portrait shows him in uniform, laden with medals. Some silvering, else fine.

  Marshall, George C (1880-1959) American military leader who, as chief of staff (1939 to 1945), built and oversaw the largest army in history. As secretary of state (1947 to 1949), he formulated the Marshall Plan, which extended economic and military aid to foreign nations decimated by World War II, and for which he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953.

TLS ("G C Marshall") as General of the Army, 1p, on "Office of General of the Army" letterhead, 9" x 7", 1952 Oct. 30. To Kenneth Crouch, regretting that he will be unable to attend a reunion of Company A, 116th Regiment, 29th U.S. Infantry Division. Fine.

Wedemeyer, A.C. 1 (1897-1989) Commander of U. S. forces in the China Theater. Four TLsS ("A.C. Wedemeyer"), one dated Nov. 27, 1945, regarding a First Day Issue Army Stamp "which will recall…the victorious termination of this long and costly war." The other three were written in 1988 to a former pilot in the China-Burma-India Theater, reminiscing about war experiences and policies, the future of the country, etc. One old tape repair, else fine.

Francis Gabreski, American ace who shot down 37.5 enemy aircraft in World War II and 6.5 in Korea, FDC signed; Johnnie Johnson RAF pilot credited with shooting down 38 Luftwaffe aircraft, photo standing in front of his plane, signed in lower border; Erich Hartmann, German ace with 352 "kills," the most of anyone ever. PS, 4" x 6"; note on back says "At Luke AFB 2 August 1969; also signed by two other men in photo, Ray Toliver (author of Fighter Aces) and Trevor Constable. Walter Krupinski, German ace with 197 tallies, FDC signed (ironically, the 1970 FDC honors General Eisenhower); Ernst Borngen (?), German ace, FDC signed; and Saburo Sakai, Japanese ace who claimed to shoot down 64 Chinese and Allied aircraft. FDC signed in English and Japanese.

With an ISP as commander of the First Pursuit Squadron, AVG. George E. Brass Screw From R.M.S. Queen Mary. Mounted on a 12½" x 10" wooden plaque bearing the ship's name and a certificate of guarantee on verso. Launched in 1934 and known for both its luxury and speed, the Cunard liner captured the Blue Riband in 1936 and again from 1938-1952. It was refitted as a troopship during WW2, then returned to passenger service until 1967 when it was retired. It has since served as a tourist attraction in Long Beach, CA and has also been used in many well-known films and TV shows. A great way to own a small part of American nautical and warfare history.
