Gage, Thomas (1719-1787) British general and commander-in chief of North American forces from 1763 to 1775. He led British troops at the opening battles of the American Revolution. DS ("Thos. Gage") as Commander-in-Chief of British forces in North America, 1p with integral leaf, on laid, watermarked paper, 8¾" x 7¼", Head Quarters in New York, 1765 Nov. 22. "These are to Certify to all whom it may concern, that Ensign David Gilman, hath Served in America during the [French and Indian] War, and was Reduced at the Conclusion thereof." Fine.

Gentleman's Magazine, England, 1754. Three 8" x 5" issues, dated June, July, and Sept. 1754. They contain the entire text of the "Journey of Major Washington to Fort Erie on the Ohio" which recounts events in 1753-1754 that led to General George Washington leading an ambush on French troops that prompted the beginning of the French & Indian War. The July issue features an 11½" x 9½" blank back fold-out map of America by Eman:Bowen, which is, in essence, the first map of the war. Very good condition.
