Democrats - Political Pinback Buttons, Etc., From 1964-1984. Approximately 200 pinback buttons ranging in size from 6" to ¾" in diameter, most from the Democratic presidential and vice presidential nominees; several of contenders for the nomination, such as Eugene McCarthy, Robert Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, etc. Also 12 picture postcards of Carter's inauguration, eight campaign signs, approximately 14" x 22", a 7½" bobble-head donkey (damage to head), and 167 small donkey-head pins. With a Franklin Mint .999 silver Jimmy Carter 1977 inaugural medal. Lot should be viewed in person.

Gazette of the United States, Philadelphia, Nov. 23, 1797. Complete original 22" x 13¾" newspaper containing inner page headline: "President's Speech" and the complete "next day" printing of the entire State of the Union message by Adams and signed in type by him. This is one of the first printings of the address -- if not the first -- as the Federalist supported newspaper was known for its access to government officials and for "scooping" other newspapers. Very good condition.

Harrison, William Henry - 1841 Funeral Admittance Card. Pinted admittance card with black mourning border, 7¼" x 4½". "This card will admit you into Christ church, to witness the funeral solemnities on the occasion of the death of William Henry Harrison, late President of the United States. April 13, 1841." Light toning and three staple marks which do not affect the text. Harrison died on April 4, 1841, having served only 30 days, 12 hours and 30 minutes, the shortest time of any President.

Complete book of Congressional Acts passed by the 2nd Session of the 9th Congress during Thomas Jefferson's 2nd term as President. Includes an act prohibiting the importation of slaves into any U.S. port and an act designed to protect commerce from Barbary pirates. Original paper board covers, 9" x 6", 132pp, plus table of contents and index, pages rough-cut as issued, paper spine deteriorating, very light toning.

[Kennedy, John F. and Jacqueline]. 1963 Christmas Gift Print with facsimile greeting and signatures, 13" x 15". Edward Lehman painted the Green Room for the 1963 card, which had already been reproduced when the President was assassinated on November 22. Mrs. Kennedy graciously gave the cards to the White House staff at Christmas. The gift print has been beautifully matted and framed to an overall size of 21" x 22½". The red folder which held the card is affixed to the back of the frame. In pristine condition and ready for display.

[Kennedy, John F.] White House Mug. 4" height, 3" diameter mug with gilt rim around mouth. Side inset with raised gold wreath and gilt and enameled Presidential Seal. Made for use at the White House during the JFK administration (1961-63). These were given as presidential gifts and have become highly prized. Obtained from a former head of the White House Secret Service Police.

Landon, Alf and Frank Knox - 1936 Pinback Buttons. Ten pinbacks: three with bust portraits of Landon and Knox (the larger 1¾" button has a yellow ribbon with "10th Congressional District Federation of Young Republican Clubs"), one with Landon alone, four with Landon above and Knox below a GOP elephant (two of these have a felt yellow sunflower design behind the button and the larger has a small white elephant dangling from a white cord), one has "Landon and Knox" and one has "Landon", the latter two surrounded by a sunflower design on the buttons. An additional Landon/Knox sunflower has no pinback.

Lincoln Hand-colored Memorial Print. 16¾" x 12¾". The legend reads "Abraham Lincoln, Sixteenth President of the United States. Born February 12, 1809. Died April 15. 1865." At center is a 6½" x 5" image of Lincoln; above him is a dove on a laurel wreath; below is a red, white and blue ribbon with "Justice, Liberty, Equality. " Behind Lincoln are black and white drapes, with red, white and blue ribbons over them. Paper is toned with several marginal breaks. Very good.

[Lincoln, Abraham] Engraved by F. Halpin From A Painting by F.B. Carpenter. Bust portrait of Lincoln with a beard, looking slightly to his left. Plate is 16 7/8" x 12¾"; sheet is 20½" 15", with facsimile signature in lower border. Inscribed on plate left: "From life by F.B. Carpenter 1864" and on plate right: "Engd. by F. Halpin N.Y." On center margin below: "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1866 by F.B. Carpenter in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York." Matted to 24¾" x 20". Halpin's print was used as the frontispiece of the first volume of Barrett's 1904 Abraham Lincoln and His Presidency.

U. S. Grant and Family - Albumen Photographic Print. Titled "Mount McGregor Cottage Porch. The great Soldier surrounded by his loved ones," Grant is photographed on the porch of his home in Mount McGregor, New York, days before his death (July 23, 1885), 15" x 17¼", copyright 1866. Each family member is identified in print. Very good; mount has minor foxing and some marginal damp stains; one faint break at upper left margin of image.

Johnson (Lyndon B.) 1964 Gold Medal Commemorating Chamizal Treaty. 40mm, 2.4 oz., either 14 or 18 carat gold. Obverse has country names and crossed flags of the U.S. and Mexico. Reverse has "LYNDON B. JOHNSON" above "CHAMIZAL" and "ADOLFO LOPEZ MATEOS / SEPTEMBER 25, 1964" below, with laurel leaves at top and bottom. On September 25, 1964, President Johnson and President Mateos settled a border dispute of 100 years standing. The Chamizal Treaty resulted in the transfer of 630 acres of land formerly in the U.S. to Mexico and 193 acres formerly in the eastern part of Juarez to the United States.

Douglas/Johnson Rare 1860 Jugate Ferrotype. 23mm, with clean, sharp images of Stephen A. Douglas on one side and Herschel V. Johnson on the other. Douglas' side is inscribed "Union of the States 1860" and Johnson's side "The Constitution and the Laws 1860." Normal ribbon hole at top; slight tarnish on small part of reverse rim. Occurs at auction far less frequently than the Lincoln/Hamlin 1860 ferrotype.

Theodore Roosevelt: one just Roosevelt button with a red rooster. Warren G. Harding: three images of Harding alone and two printed Harding and Coolidge. Calvin Coolidge: one Coolidge/Dawes jugate, one printed Coolidge and Dawes, and one portrait of Coolidge.
