The Hundred Years War began during Philip's reign in 1337. Toulose, located in southwestern France, was an ancient city from Roman times. The city sank into second class status during the 18th and 19th centuries. This turned out to actually benefit Toulose, since it did not have pollution and social problems associated with cities that were caught up in the Industrial Revolution. This prompted many aerospace companies to locate there, and today the city thrives and is growing rapidly.

Louis XV, known early as "the beloved", was later considered anything but beloved by the French people.
