Maria Zell is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in Europe. In 1157, a Benedictine monk named Magnus, taking a small statue of the Madonna and Child, retired into the wilderness, where tradition says the dense trees parted to make way for him. Pilgrims as far back as the 15th century attest they have seen the Madonna’s face, eyes and lips moving, as if she were alive. Estimated Value $1,700 - 1,900. View details and enlarged photos
