Fear that an invasion of Hawaii's principal islands was immanent caused the government to rush into use this Hawaii Overprint emergency issue. Denominations were $1, $5, $10 and $20. After the emergency was over, the notes retained their legal tender status throughout the islands as well as in the continental United States.
