Lot 3108
1892-S Morgan Dollar. Sharpness of MS-63 Prooflike. Light golden toning on both sides. Small pin scratch across Liberty's neck, which must be weighed in the bidding because this is such an important issue, but more than compensated by the choice surfaces elsewhere. Well struck and nice, flashes of mirror surface throughout. Some light hairlines visable. The 1892-S is one of the dates in the Morgan dollar series that separates the men from the boys, making bidding on one an sobering experience. Despite a fair number made (original mintage of 1.2 million pieces), this year is missing in Uncirculated condition in most of America's silver dollar collections. And there does not appear to have been a time when Mint States weren't rare. No 1892-S dollars surfaced in the 1960s when the Treasury Department released millions of silver dollars at face value. It may be that most were destroyed at the end of World War I under the terms of the Pittman Act. This attractive Mint State awaits your bid. With considerable fervor, bidding should take it right on up to a strong price realized, with the end bidder congratulating himself n his astuteness.
Estimated Value $25,000 - 28,000.

Lot 3114
1893-S Morgan Dollar. NGC graded AU-53. Nicely toned on both sides. Important key date Morgan Dollar. A worthwhile rarity by any standard, the luster is still intact in a few protected regions around the letters and devices, while smooth antique gray and other toning hues blossom on both sides. This coin has the look that collectors like. It has the absence of marks that pays dividends when the time to sell arrives. Furthermore, the strike, like the surface originality, is confident, full, indeed, as bold as ever seen on virtually any 1893-S offered. Only 100,000 were minted. Most became extensively worn in circulation. The few high grade pieces get quickly snapped up. Pop 41; 61 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 7224) .

1893-S Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded EF-45. Popular key date Morgan Dollar. Well struck and lightly toned. A worldly measure of natural silver gray color with here and there a trace of luster to liven up the wide expanse of smooth surface. The fields are for much nicer than average; we cannot say immaculate for a coin that circulated, but as the photographs depict, this coin has an edge over others in its grade; and the strike is intrepid enough to call for special mention. Pop 395. (PCGS # 7226) .

1894 Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64 PQ. Old green holder. Wonderful rainbow toning on both sides. Should be cracked out and regraded. There is so much to say about the beautiful surfaces of this coin since they are nearly gem quality, a level that is almost unobtainable. The mint frost of the devices is glowing with intensity over each side. Surrounding, the gleam of fresh mirrors. There is a lot more than a wee bit of patina as well, the colors resonate with a gleam all their own. And what's more, confirming the smooth luster, we report excellent sharpness on all devices. Concentrate on these features, and then submit your bids. 972 Proofs struck. Pop 75; 38 finer; 25 in 65; 9 in 66; 3 in 67; 1 in 68. (PCGS # 7329) .

Lot 3126
1894 Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-63. Frosty with a hint of light toning. A popular low mintage date. Far and away the second lowest mintage among P-mint Morgan Dollars, and the third lowest (after the 1893-S) among all Morgan strikes including Proofs in this series. One of just 110,000 pieces reported struck, this coin is sure to work its way into a Choice Uncirculated date set. The strike is much sharper than average, one might easily say bold, with pretty strong definition over the highest, most hair waves and breast feathers of the design. As often occurs, there are a few small bagmarks on Liberty's cheek, but the virtual absence of sizeable marks and the free-flowing frosty luster give this particular specimen the eye appeal associated with the grade (PCGS # 7228) .

1894 Morgan Dollar. NGC graded MS-62. Toned on both sides. Collectors familiar with the Philadelphia Mint 1894 dollars in the Morgan series will recognize this difference at once. Only 110,000 minted (PCGS # 7228) .

1895 Morgan Dollar. NGC graded Proof 65. Beautiful lilac and blue toning on both sides. It has been commented on by numismatists that Mint records indicate 12,000 business strike Morgan Dollars were delivered in 1895. However, not a single specimen has surfaced. Either all were stored at the Mint and subsequently melted, or the coins delivered were not dated 1895. Regardless of which turns out to be true, the deficiency of business strike 1895 Morgan dollars has put the Proofs of this year in the limelight, as it were. A rarity and one whose desirability in today's hobby is famous. Without a doubt, a Gem Proof 1895 like the coin presently being offered, is the lynch-pin to collecting this long-lived and widely regarded series of large silver coins. We are pleased to offer a sparkling quality coin whose surface shines with reflectivity as the light plays across it. Interesting natural toning hues are seen at all angles with some deeper glints of blue tones on both sides. Boldly struck with no aberrant marks or hairlines. Only 880 proofs. Pop 31; 37 finer; 23 in 66; 2 in 67; 2 in 68. (PCGS # 7330) .

1895 Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64. Beautiful blue and lilac toning on both sides. 880 Proofs struck. Regardless of the fate of the missing 1895 business strike dollars, there is no question the numerous Morgan dollar connoisseurs dream about owning a rare Proof specimen. The original delivery was 880 pieces as part of the Proof sets that year. Bowers, in his two-ton encyclopedia of Silver Dollars posits that as few as 700 are left today. With a crisp strike and a rich colorful patina, this near-gem Proof 64 is clearly ahead of most other survivors. The nicely reflective fields display a few hairlines that, preclude a full Proof 65 grade. All the same, words can barely convey the effect that this lovely coin will have on Morgan enthusiasts and eager bidders when it goes on the auction block.
