Byzantine Empire. Phocas, 602-610 AD. Gold Solidus (4.28 g), Constantinople mint, struck 603-607 AD. Facing crowned, draped and cuirassed bust, holding globus cruciger. Reverse: Angel standing facing, holding Chi-Rho staff and globus cruciger. SBC 618; DOC II 5. The coin a very interesting double strike / overstrike. Coin probably lightly clipped. Highly lustrous! Superb Extremely Fine.

Heraclius with mustache and long beard, flanked by sons Heraclius Constantine and Heraclonas; all crowned and standing frontal, and wearing chlamys and holding globus cruciger in right hand. Reverse: Cross potent on three steps; to left, hP monogram. Sear 769. Finely centered and perfectly struck -- with splendid detail and lots of luster. Mint State.

Reverse: Facing bust of Constantine, wearing crown and loros, holding cruciform scepter and patriarchal cross on globus. SBC 1828; DOC III 1a. Choice, clean strikes on both sides. With brilliant to almost glossy luster. Handsome example, on spread flan. Lustrous Uncirculated.

Reverse: The Virgin, nimbate (on right) and Constantine, bearded (on left), both stand facing, as she crowns the emperor, who holds globus cruciger; M above. SBC 1848; DOC III 2; BN 10-11. Especially well struck. Highly lustrous and choice! Brilliant Uncirculated.

Son Michael, holding labarum and akakia, flanked by Constantius and Andronicus, each holding globus cruciger and akakia, all standing facing on footstool. Reverse: Christ, nimbate, standing facing on footstool, crowning Romanus and Eudocia, each standing facing and holding globus cruciger. SBC 1859; DOC III 1. Very slight softness to a couple of faces, otherwise well struck and crisp, with abundant glossy luster. A very appealing coin. Superb Extremely Fine.

Byzantine Empire. Andronicus II & Michael IX, 1295-1320 AD. Pale Gold Hyperpyron (3.85 g), Constantinople, struck c. 1295-1320 AD. Bust of Virgin within multi-towered city walls. Reverse: Andronicus and Michael kneel on either side of Christ, who crowns them both. SBC 2396. Usual areas of flat striking, but not a bad example overall. Lightly toned. Extremely Fine.
