Rome. Small Lot of Earlier Denarii, c. 46 BC - 68 AD. Earliest, a Spanish mint Caesar: Venus with Cupid / Two captives beneath trophy (Sear II 1404). Also a Mark Antony legionary issue; for Legion VII. Also, Augustus, with Lucius & Gaius (Sear II 1597); a Denarius of Nero, with Jupiter (Sear II 1930); and lastly, a Drachm of Alexander the Great. Inspection of lot suggested. Lot of 5 coins. Coins mostly Good to Fine; the Caesar better.

Also a pair of smaller AE's. Copper As or Dupondius: Commodus, Hercules reverse (RIC 254). Dupondius: Maximinus Thrax, Victory reverse (Sear II 8365).   Roman Empire. Lot of AR Denarii and Antoniniani, c. 98-250 AD. Good-sized lot of silver coins, starting with Nerva (Sear II 3019), and ending with Herennius Etruscus (Sear II 9521). With single examples each: Trajan, Antoninus Pius, Lucius Verus, Commodus, Gordian III, and Philip I. Septimius Severus and Caracalla with multiple pieces. These, along with a single Greek silver Dyrrachium-type Drachm, c. 2nd century BC. -- this in a hansdome mass-marketing "portfolio." Lot of 14 coins. Coins range from About Fine to Extremely Fine.

  Roman Empire. Lot of 3 Severan Dynasty Denarii, c. 199-223 AD. Earliest of Septimius Severus: laureate head right / Providence (Sear II 6354). Also, two of Severus Alexander, with laureate, draped and cuirassed busts; reverses with Salus (Sear II 7894), and Providence (cf. Sear II 7920). All well struck, with fine eye appeal. Good lot. An assortment of better preserved items, including: a Billon Antoninianus of Valerian II;silvered AE's of Licinius II, Numerian, and a choice Antoninianus of Carinus; plus various coins of Carus, Diocletian, Victorinus, Maximinus II, Maxentius, Constantine I, and Constantius II. Plus a few later coins: a Byzantine Class B Anonymous Follis (SBC 1823); a Venetian silver Grosso of P. Gradenigo; a silver Drachm of Xushro II (590-628 AD.); and a small Hungarian silver Denar, dated 1552. Inspection suggested, but overall pleasing, worthwhile material. Lot of 17 coins. Plus a Follis of Galerius, 305-311 (VIRTVTI EXERCITVS). All well struck and centered, on good metal, with various tones. Inspection suggested. Worthwhile. Lot of 3 coins. ICG graded AU-50 - VF-35.

Lot 160
  Roman Empire. Large Lot of AE and Silver Coins, c. 2 BC. - 425 AD. Lot includes Denarii of: Augustus, Nero, Vespasian, Titus, Hadrian, Caracalla, and Severus Alexander; plus a half dozen typical silver or billon Antoniniani. The AE's comprise a run of the more typical later 3rd to 5th century rulers, including a not too bad Carausius (double-struck) and Allectus. Other material includes a handful of Jewish Prutot, including a Pontius Pilate; some smaller silvers and coppers of Cilician Armenia; a few Sicilian and Macedonian smaller Bronzes; a Chinese Cash of the Northern Sung Dynasty (c. 1102-1106 AD.); one Sumerian "ring money" in shell; and a Hellenistic clay sealing. Inspection suggested due to the variety of metals and surface conditions. SOLD AS IS, NO RETURNS. Lot of 60 coins. Coins generally range from Good to Nearly Extremely Fine, a few worse.
