Original Series, $2 National Bank Note. The First NB, Kansas, IL. PCGS Apparent Extremely Fine 40,Restored. . Fr-389. . KL-1095. The final note from this cut sheet, this Lazy Deuce has had restoration like the three Aces. It is broadly margined and has bold signatures, although the paper has the same toned appearance.

Lot 2112
Original Series, $5 National Bank Note. First NB of South Charleston, OH. CGA Fine 12. . Fr-394. . KL-1100. This early bank was chartered in 1863 and lasted until 1877, issuing First Charter notes only. This $5 is one of just seven surviving examples, and is problem-free for the grade save for a short split at the upper left that affects nothing. A scarce note from a difficult-to-find location.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.

1875, $10 National Bank Note. The First NB, Flora, IL. PCGS Apparent Very Fine 30, Major Restorations. . Fr-416. . KL-1176. Although large portions of the design have been redrawn, this first charter $10 appears quite high grade at first glance. The signatures are sharp and bold and add to the visual eye appeal. Only a few early notes survived from this bank that was chartered in 1872.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.

1882, $5 National Bank Note. The Philadelphia NB, Philadelphia, PA. PCGS Extremely Fine 45PPQ. . Fr-467. . KL-1115. This beautiful $5 Brown Back has excellent eye appeal, full originality, and broad, even margins. A tiny inked "check" mark is on the face just to the left of the upper right counter and is mentioned for accuracy; obviously the graders at PCGS felt this to be irrelevant to the note's overall appeal.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 3,000.

1882, $5 National Bank Note. Merchants NB of Ashland, KY. CGA Fine 12. . Fr-472. . KL-1120. Only two notes are reported from this bank that was in business from only 1891 to 1906 and issued just Brown Backs, this note and a lower grade $10. It is sharp and appealing for the grade, and has all the rarity and desirability to make it a great "trophy" addition to any collection of Kentucky Nationals.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 7,000.

1882, $5 National Bank Note. The New Amsterdam NB, New York, NY. PCGS Choice About New 55PPQ. . Fr-477. . KL-1125. A sharp serial number 3 example of this scarcer New York City bank that is represented by just a dozen notes, all Brown Backs, in the census. It is well margined, with extra selvage at the bottom as it is the "D" plate position note, and the colors are simply stunning. Several low serial numbered examples have survived from this bank, but this is one of the nicer that we have seen.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.

1882, $10 National Bank Note. The First NB of Newport, NH. CGA Gem Uncirculated 66. . Fr-480. . KL-1186. This tremendous Brown Back is one of a handful of high grade examples that have survived from here, but there never seem to be enough notes like this to go around to satisfy collector demand. It is well centered, nicely margined, and has the bold colors that one always expects from a high grade Brown Back.

1902, $10 National Bank Note. The First NB, Pond Creek, OK Territory. Fine-Very Fine. . Fr-613. . KL-1216. From the January, 2007 Heritage FUN Currency Auction, where it was described as: "This is the most "common" bank in either the Oklahoma or Indian Territories for Red Seals, with eight examples in the census. Of course, that figure should also take into account that the entire census for both Oklahoma and Indian Territory Red Seals still comes in at fewer than a hundred pieces for all denominations and banks combined. This is a very attractive specimen, with a vivid red overprint, good centering, and the pen signature of Assistant Cashier Naomi Wheatley, likely one of the very few females to have signed Territorial National Bank Notes." This note brought $13,800 in spirited bidding in that sale, and we expect a similar result today.
Estimated Value $12,000 - 14,000.
