This is one of the earliest Goldguldens stuck, and the first collectible gold coin of Hungary. Modelled after the Florentine type, the legend defines it as Hungarian origin. A seldom offered type.

The B variant has no "P" on obverse and pellets between the two layers of the hexafoil enclosing the escutcheon. Obv: Cross- LODOVICI.D.G.R UNGARIAN between two bead circles around doubled hexafoil contain Hungarian and Anjou shield. Reverse: SANTUS. LADISLAUS. right between two beaded circles. Saint standing holding Halbert in right hand and orb with crown in left hand. In the fields are seven lyses (four and three) with P over the three. NGC graded MS-63.

One of the more important of the early Hungarian ducats. St. Ladislaus, the patron saint of Hungary is pictured. Louis was named king of Poland in 1370, so he is collected by Hungarians and Poles alike.

Maria only ruled five years, so her coins are very tough to acquire. This coin is scarce in any grade, but rare this nice.

Albrecht of Habsburg was both king of Hungary and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. He issued coins for both areas, and the Hungarian ones are distinguished by the depiction of St. Ladislaus.
