1804 Draped Bust Half Cent. . C-9, R2. VG-8 Double Struck. Sharpness VF25 with scratches on both sides and light corrosion plus traces of greenish verdigris in protected areas of the reverse. Rather glossy chocolate brown mixed with some darker olive and reddish chocolate on both sides. Early die state. Double struck. The first impression was slightly off center and the second was centered and rotated about 10-15 degrees CCW relative to the first. Strong evidence of the initial strike shows on both sides, including the 18 of the first date left of the second date, two faces for Ms Liberty with a shift of at least a millimeter between them, and UNITED on the rim outside the second UNITED. Not an especially attractice piece, but the error is strong.

1804 Draped Bust Half Cent. Plain 4, stems. . C-11, R2. Fine-15. Ten points sharper but covered with extremely faint porosity. No verdigris, and the roughness is not distracting at all. Lot 193
1804 Plain 4 with Stems. Tab Double Strike. . C-11, R2. Fine-15. Glossy chocolate brown with steel brown highpoints. No roughness or verdigris, only trivial contact marks consistent with the grade. This is a tab double strike. The first impression was normal but the struck coin failed to eject completely and a second strike caught the edge below the date and over TAT in STATES. The obverse rim under the date appears to have been pressed against the new blank planchet during this second strike, but the reverse has a strong second impression from the die over TAT leaving only extra dentils in that area. A dramatic example of a very rare type of mint error, and an attractive piece to boot.

1804 Draped Bust Half Cent. Plain 4, stemless. . C-13, R1. Fine-15 Double Struck. Reverse Brockage Maker. Slightly sharper with some minor contact marks, none notable. Glossy chocolate and olive brown with frosty lighter greenish steel toning in protected areas. Double struck. Both strikes were centered on the planchet but they were rotated about 30 degrees between impressions. The doubling is bold on the portrait, but there is no doubling on the reverse. Rather, the second strike on that side was against a new blank planchet that had been inserted into the press, thus creating an incuse brockage impression on that second planchet.
