Large Cent Blank Planchet with Upset Rims (Stage II) EF40. Glossy chocolate brown with smooth, undamaged surfaces that show the usual assortment of pre-striking planchet chips and nicks. Diameter 28.0 millimeters weighing 172.2 grains. The rims are upset and the planchet is ready for striking, most likely intended for a Mature Head (1843-57) cent based on the size and width of the upset rims. An important addition for any advanced collection of our early cents.
Estimated Value $75 - 150.

Undated Mature Head Large Cent, the Obverse Heavily Blunted. Fine-12. Glossy medium brown. The reverse is struck normally but the obverse is extremely blunt. Probably struck through grease used to lubricate the press. There are faint traces of a date suggesting the last numeral is a 0, 2, 3, or 6. Only stars 4-6 are visible at all, so that gives you an idea of how blunt the obverse strike was. Weight 156.0 grains, which is close to normal for the grade.
Estimated Value $50 - 100.

Blank Planchet for Mature Head Large Cents, 1843-1857 VF30. Stage II with Wide Upset Rims. Glossy medium brown with smooth surfaces marred only by the usual pre-striking planchet chips and nicks. Looks as if it may have circulated a bit, but that's difficult to tell for sure. The rims are upset and rather wide suggesting this planchet was for a Mature Head 1843-57 cent. Weight is 166.5 grains versus the mint standard of 168.0 grains for these cents.
Estimated Value $75 - 150.

Pair of Odd Large Cents. Includes an 1820 large date made into a gear of some sort and an 1854 N-11 that is on a planchet measuring only 23.5 millimeters in diameter and weighing 109.8 grains. The 1820 grades VG10 where not tooled but it is recolored and the 1854 is near VF20 and an attractive glossy medium brown. A careful examination of the 1854 shows no evidence of tooling on the edge to reduce the diameter, but the small planchet makes no sense. A careful examination is recommended. Lot of 2 coins.
