Lot 3197
1861 Original 7 Piece Proof Set. NGC graded as follows: $1.00 PF66 Star, 50C PF67 Star; 25C PF66, 10C PF66, H10 PF66, 3CS PF67 Star, 1C PF64. A perfectly matched set with absolutely incredibly beautiful iridescent toning. Featuring purples, violets, turquoise and gold. You've really got to examine this lovely Proof Set of 1861. Beg, borrow, or hock your mother-in-law to acquire the dollars to buy a plane ticket for Los Angeles to examine this remarkable set first-hand. You will be amazed. A trite sentiment, perhaps, but we must repeat it, if only for the record: You will be amazed! When we saw this for the first time, we were flabbergasted by the consistent beauty and unparalleled perfection of the coins. After all, we're talking about 1861. One hundred forty-five years ago. In the backs of our minds swim memories of all the other 1860s-era Proof silver coins we've seen, bought, sold, had offered to us, had consigned for auction, or heard about through the coin-dealer grapevine. None can match this set's vibrancy of color. Nothing could ever hope to hold a candle to it in terms of consistent high quality, sharp detail, or anything else associated with this featured set of seated Liberty coins. A candidate for finest known set.
Estimated Value $75,000 - 85,000.
