Lot 4428
1914, $100 Federal Reserve Note. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ. . Fr-1104. A lovely Gem specimen with crackling fresh paper, bright blue overprint, and deep green back. The Federal Reserve System was established over more than a decade of behind-the-scenes meetings between government officials and the big bankers. When authorized in 1913, it began to issue these "fiat" or unbacked notes. However, since America was still on the gold standard when this $100 was first printed, these big denomination bills could be converted into gold or silver at the owner's option. Pop 2; none finer.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500.
