Large Original Spanish American War Full Color Print. "The Battle Of Manila", a contemporary chromolithograph print, overall size 20" x 16", depicting a highly dramatic mid-ocean battle scene, in which American and Spanish battleships and torpedo boats exchange withering fire, leading to the ultimate American victory. At lower left is an inset portrait of Rear Admiral Dewey, soon to become a national hero. In the left corner the publisher's info as "No. 1209, Copyrighted 1898, By Muller, Luchsinger & Co. New York." The caption at the bottom of the print reads "Fought May 1st By Rear Admiral Dewey, Spanish Loss 11 Ships, 150 Killed, 250 Wounded, American Loss, None." Slight damp staining at upper right and to a lesser degree at upper left, all well outside the image, providing much clean white border for matting and framing, otherwise in excellent condition with bright original coloring. Scarce.
