Eight British Newspapers Prior to and During the War of 1812. Three issues of Bell's Weekly Messenger, 13 Dec., 1807, with text of Thomas Jefferson's speech to Congress (27 Oct.) on British harassment of U.S. shipping and the threat of war; 17 Jan., 1813, declaration by the Prince Regent, declaring the causes and origin of the war with the U.S.; 2 Oct. 1814, 3 pages describing the British capture of the city of Washington. Two issues of Felix Farley's Bristol Journal, 1 Oct. 1814, with s description of the capture and destruction of Washington; and 31 Dec. 1814 with the terms of the Treaty of Ghent. The Traveller, 20 Feb. 1815 with news of the Battle of New Orleans. 1 Oct. 1814 issue of The Staffordshire Advertiser reports the capture of Washington. One issue of The News, 26 Mar. 1809, mentions the partial lifting of the embargo. Some with tax stamps; very good overall.
