1922, $20 Gold Certificate. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ. . Fr-1187. . KL-564. A strikingly beautiful bright gold certificate whose fresh paper, golden orange color, and sharp corners means that it will decorate a high-quality set of United States paper money. Twenty dollars was a lot of money in those days; the typical Ford motor company assembly line worker received pay of $5 per day for his labors, so remember that it took four full days of hard work to earn this $20 gold note. Of course, back then there were virtually no income taxes, sales taxes, parking meter taxes, telephone access fees, or seat belt laws. You could also smoke a Cuban cigar in a speakeasy restaurant and no one would hustle you out the door into a paddywagon. So just maybe $20 would take you pretty far back in '22. Be that as it may, few gems remain of this colorful $20 gold note.
Estimated Value $2,750 - 3,000.

FR-1215. 1922, $100 Gold Certificate. CGA Choice New 63. . Fr-1215. . KL-827. A very choice specimen of this bright orange design, with the front combining black design, yellow filigree overprint with blue serial numbers and red Treasury seal. A colorful reminder of the type of paper money once in use in America, circa 1922-33. "This certificate is a legal tender in the amount thereof in payment of all debts and dues public and private. Acts of March 14, 1900, as amended and December 24, 1919" reads the obligation. ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS IN GOLD COIN REPAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND is a unique way putting the obligation. Portrait of Thomas Hart Benton, who served in both the U.S. Senate and in the U.S. House of Representatives from the 1820s to the 1850s.

Fr-1217. 1922, $500 Gold Certificate. PCGS Very Fine 30. . Fr-1217. . KL-940. Gold Certificates are colorful and vivid, and are among the most attractive of all currency issues. Their reverses are a brilliant golden orange, symbolic of the gold coin they represent. Although there were nine emissions of gold certificates, only four of the issues were circulated to any extent, namely the fourth, seventh, eighth and ninth issues.

The ninth and last issue of Gold Certificates forms the notes that are most frequently seen today. These notes are series of 1913 and 1922 and the issue consisted of all denominations from 10 to 1,000 Dollars. The series of 1913 appears only on 50 Dollar notes.

A sharp looking Lincoln $500 gold certificate with vivid colors, a choice orange back, and excellent paper quality for the grade. PCGS graded Very Fine 30.
Estimated Value $12,500 - 15,000.
