An Exuberance of Muselman Hand-Crafted Brass Work. Turkey, c. 19th Century. A portable shoe shine stand. Of oblong construction, at its center a sturdy box (with shoe rest), with flying buttress-like side compartments, hosting a plethora of shelves, receptacles, and brass-capped bottles. And with the Turkish delight in ornament, all surfaces are enriched with arabesques and geometric designs. Piece complete. Width:33-5/8". An arresting decorator's item from Istanbul's famed Suq (marketplace) -- one that you can take a shine to!

Lot of Vintage Ethnic Pipes. Ancient to Antique. Earliest, Amerind: a short-eared quadruped with cylindrical bowl on back, the tail serving as pipe stem, with segmented ornament. Likely a beaver is intended here. Next a molded white pipe in fine-grain ceramic, with relief design of crowned castle amid shamrocks. Perhaps English, c. 1800, for the Irish market. Last, an Indonesian(?) carved wood kneeling woman forming the bowl. Longest item: 6". Lot of 3 items.

Interesting Bronze Mirror with Cosmic Designs. China, Eastern Han, 25-220 AD. Heavy cast mirror. The face lightly convex and highly polished. The back with sunken center with geometric designs; the edge raised, with dog-tooth border and floral arabesques. At center, loop for suspension. Cf. especially another example at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, also Eastern Han (AC.1998.251.28). Intact and in choice condition, with glossy variegated patina. Old, yellowed sticker and inked inventory number on face.
Estimated Value $500 - 600.
"Old Grand Tour Collection," c. pre-1930. This class of mirror known as the "TLV" type. The four T's that stand around the central square earth are the four cardinal points. The four V's mark the four corners of heaven. The four L's represent tools used by carpenters to set a straight line. All of these a means of connecting cosmic lines for channeling purposes.

Silk Wedding Kimono. Japan, c. 1950's-1960's. This ceremonial white gown is ornately decorated with several shades of gold thread and portions of hand-painted gold fabric. The rich embroidery follows the travels of a hand-driven coach through a brushy countryside. The robe is lined with red silk. Length: 68"; Sleeve lengths, from shoulder to floor: 37-1/2". In very fine condition. A sumptuous work of handicraft.
