1902, $5 National Bank Note. Fr-593. Desirable dated back issue from the state capital of Richmond. One of only 14 notes reported (all large size). The bank closed in 1926. Throughout the 1920s, several hundred national banks folded or were merged each year; by the 1930s, the numbers grew into the thousands annually during the stressful conditions of the Great Depression. (Of course, new banks were formed each year and received charters from the National Bank authorities.). PCGS graded Fine 12.

They were hard workers who struggled against rural hardships. In many of these ways, Dexter Horton typified Seattle's earliest citizens. He earned his way in Pacific Northwest settlement with physical labor -- but eventually achieved prosperity as a merchant and banker. Horton was born near Seneca Lake, N.Y., on Nov. 15, 1825.
