1879 Trade Dollar. ANACS graded Proof 64. Rainbow toning over light gray and reflective fields. A proof only date with a mintage of 1,541. A scarce issue and this example has nice feather detail. Perhaps artificially retoned, but still very attractive (PCGS # 7059) .

1880 Trade Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64 Cameo. A glittering and very choice cameo proof example with just a hint of delicate golden toning about the obverse borders. A proof-only date of which 1987 were made. PCGS reports 30 with 13 in PR-65 Cameo, 7 in PR-66 Cameo and 4 in PR-67 Cameo (PCGS # 87060) .

1880 Trade Dollar. Proof 50. After 1878, only Proofs were struck, the mintage for this year being 1987 pieces. This specimen, which has been cleaned and lightly polished, shows hairlines and light contact marks on both sides (PCGS # 7060) .

1882 Trade Dollar. NGC graded Proof 67 Cameo Star. From 1879 to 1885 Trade Dollars were struck in Proof only with mintages ranging from a high of 1987 for the 1880 to only 5 pieces for the 1885. The 1882 had a total mintage of only 1097. The strike is all one could desire with every detail of the design clear and bold. The toning is gorgeous in shades of pale gold and aqua deepening to lilac and blue iridescence. The reverse is framed in a halo of golden russet. This wonderful coin ranks quite high, second to be exact, in the census at NGC. Population 1, this present specimen, with only a single coin finer, a Proof 68 Cameo (PCGS # 7062) .

1883 Trade Dollar. NGC graded Proof 66 Cameo. A blazing white cameo gem that exhibits intense mirror surfaces against undisturbed satiny raised devices. This spot free beauty should stir considerable interest among both type and date collectors. The 1883 is the last truly collectible trade dollar, a proof-only year of which 979 were struck. NGC reports 11 in this grade with 1 in PF-66 Star Cameo and 7 in PF-67 Cameo (PCGS # 7063) .
