Dassault, Marcel (1892-1986) French aircraft industrialist. Photograph Signed, n.p., n.d., 8 x 10 inches. A seated, chest-up portrait by Henry Pessar, Paris. Fine. Born Marcel Bloch, Dassault invented a type of aircraft propeller used by the French army during World War I. He refused to collaborate with the German aviation industry during World War II and was sent to Buchenwald as a Jew. After the war, he built the foremost military aircraft manufacturer in France, Avions Marcel Dassault.

Early Royal Air Force Aviation Manuscript & Drawings. Manuscript notes on early aeronautic engines and planes, 14pp, folio, on ruled paper. The lecture notes cover the mechanical and structural parts and design aspects of the very early planes, and also go into the rules of flying. A separate page, 7½ x 9½ in. has a "Control Diagram" of a bi-plane on one side and a drawing of the "Main Plane" on the other; arrows point to the various parts, which are identified in blue ink. The plane is vintage World War I. The paper is toned but the writing is neat and easily read. The Royal Air Force was formed in 1918 from the amalgamation of the Royal Flying Corps (formed in 1912) and the Royal Naval Air Service (formed after the outbreak of WWI).

Lindbergh, Charles (1902-1974) Made first solo, non-stop transatlantic flight in 1927. Photograph Signed, n.p., n.d., 10 x 8 in. A smiling, waist-up left profile portrait, signed in black ink in a darkish area at lower right, across one of Lindbergh's sleeves and background. Signature is clearly visible and Lindbergh's smile is much broader than usual. Verso has stamp of ACME Newspapers and some discoloration from a previous mounting, not affecting the excellent image.

(Lindbergh, Charles). First Day Cover carried by Charles Lindbergh on the "Spirit of St. Louis" when he flew from Santo Domingo to Port-au-Prince, Haiti on February 6, 1928. The envelope is engraved in Spanish in the upper left corner: "Special Air Mail for Lindbergh / The Spirit of Saint Louis"; the same wording is stamped diagonally in blue on the right side. A red airplane has "Lindbergh" printed on it. The postmark reads: "Air Mail Santo Domingo / FEB 6 1928." Matted with a plaque and an image of Lindbergh and framed to an overall size of 12 x 15¾ in.

Annette Gipson Autograph Letter Signed, Roosevelt Field, L.I., N.Y., May 7, 1936, 1p, 6½ x 5¼ in., telling "Peter" she would like him "to come out and fly with me in my new ship…." Lisette Kapri Photograph Signed and Inscribed to Clara Adams, July 1941, taken beside her plane, "Grey Kitten." All fine.

  International Early Aviation. Lot of four items; two groups of signatures from aviators, one Byrd signature and one Byrd picture postcard. 1). Russian aviators, the first to fly from East to West (Moscow to New York, October 1929) on the airplane Land of the Soviets. Signatures in Cyrillic script of S.A. Shestakov, S. Fufaev, Philip E. Bolotov, and Boris Sterligov. Seattle, October 18, 1929, one page, 5½ x 8½ in. One corner missing, one vertical and four horizontal creases, minor surface soil. 2). Signatures of Charles Kingsford-Smith, J.P. Saul and John S.W. Stannage, part of the crew of the Southern Cross, n.p., n.d., one page, 6 x 4 in. One vertical fold, one corner chipped and loose. 3). Signature of Richard Byrd ("RE Byrd"), n.p, n.d. 4 x 2½ in. Accompanied by a picture postcard and a letter from Byrd's camp. All items very good. An exceptional lot of pioneering aviators.
