Battle of Lake Erie - September 10, 1813. An account of the Battle of Lake Erie in the Boston Gazette, September 30, 1813, 4 pp, 19¼ x 13¼ in. Page 1 prints Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry's letters of Sept. 12 and 13 to Secretary of the Navy William Jones, giving an account of the battle and discussing the prisoners, the wounded, and the condition of the ships. Another column states the force of both sides, as well as the names of all of the Americans killed or wounded. Also printed is Perry's famous letter to General William Henry Harrison: "Dear General, We have met the enemy; AND THEY ARE OURS." A light stain at top left and center and partial edge split, else very good. Housed in a custom-made holder of black buckram with burgundy spine; the name of the paper, the date, and "Battle of Lake Erie" are in gilt lettering.

General Orders To Detach Massachusetts Militia. Printed broadside titled "General Orders!" and issued by order of "His Excellency the Commander in Chief, having received a request from Major-General Dearborn….," Boston, July 18, 1814, 15¾ x 8¼ in. Ordering a detachment of "200 Artillerists and 900 Infantry…to remain in the service of the United States for the term of three months…that Detachments be made…from the 1st, 2d, 3d, 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Divisions of the Militia.…" The order is broken down into great detail and signed in print by Adjutant-General John Brooks. Overall toning and light foxing; uneven margin at lower left affects nothing. About fine.

Newman, Daniel. U.S. General in the War of 1812. Autograph Letter Signed as Adjutant General, Louisville, Georgia, Sept. 8, 1807, 1p. octavo, with integral address leaf to Major General David B. Mitchell, near Milledgeville. Newman enclosed "a detail [not present] of the field officers of the 1st division of the militia of this state, with their places of residence and dates of commissions, as far as could be ascertained …. Free franked, "on public service."
