1912 Lincoln Cent. PCGS graded MS-66 Red. Here's a date that doesn't appear very often in MS-66 Red or better. This one is well struck and undeniably red.   1914-D Lincoln Cent. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. One of the toughest and most popular dates in the entire series. This one has glossy surfaces and some faded Mint Red that isn't accounted for in the "Brown" designation. We've maintained for a long time that it would be helpful if the Brown, Red-Brown, and Red designations were replaced by an actual measurement of the Mint Red (i.e. 40% Red). The coin offered here is a perfect example because, all else being equal, a coin with faded Mint Red should be worth more than a purely Brown one. At least, that's our opinion.

1916 Lincoln Cent. NGC graded Proof 66 Red. A needle-sharp example of this date, the second finest graded by NGC (exceeded only by a single Proof-67 Red). Both sides display nearly full Red color, with just the slightest mellowing to blood-red on the obverse and coppery-blue on the reverse. A wonderful condition-rarity that is sure to excite the Lincoln Cent specialist. Here's how rare this date is in full Red Proof condition: out of the 74 examples graded so far by NGC, only 5 have earned the Red designation. Part of the problem is that the finish applied to the matte Proofs seems to have activated the copper in the coins, making it more reactive to its environment and leading to a faster-than-average loss of color. Thankfully, this coin was well preserved and it is now safely ensconced in a protective holder.
Estimated Value $12,000 - 14,000.
