While perforated denars are occasionally seen, this rare large bronze denomination is unrecorded as a holed, ex ancient-jewelry piece. The Mildenberg reverse dies 4 and 12 are amongst the most beautiful and charismatic of all Bar Kochba coinage.

Fields show old, expert smoothing, with discreet tooling to Hadrian's profile, and a touch of tooling here and there on the reverse -- mostly at the lettering and children. Nevertheless an exquisite example of this rarity, with an impressive pedigree -- perhaps one of the finest known of this variety. Extremely Fine / Choice Very Fine.
