This coin is overstruck upon a thin-flan bronze whose original-striking facial features are visible on the body of the amphora, as well as having the understriking obverse inscription "…HAD…" legible at the periphery. Strong understrikes are seldom encountered in the bronze series. Although all Bar Kokhba War coins were overstruck upon earlier coins, the bronzes were systematically filed, as being of a harder metal. The hated Roman emperors and pagan deities on bronze issues were better erased by filing than merely to be overstruck with the new dies, as were the silver issues. View details	Unsold

A little encrusted, but again not hampered by excessive treatments. A highly important coin that should be of interest to specialists of Bar Kochba coinage. Fine to Very Fine. Estimated Value $17,500 - 20,000. This unusually heavy and thick flan is indicative of the earliest large-bronze issues. The later die combinations and year 2 types were invariably struck upon thinner host coins, as obviously the early sestertii and large medallionlike city coinage bronzes had been utilized and were no longer available. This reverse die was plated by J. Chaim Kaufman in "Studies in Memory of Leo Mildenberg" (INJ Volume 14), p. 135, at bottom. View details	Unsold

The existence of this coin proves that the recutting of the obverse was done before the die combination of Mild 27, which is dated "year 2."
