A complete, double set of U.S. coins in the original cardboard holders and mailing envelope, as issued by the government. The reason for including two of each coin was so that collectors could display the front and back of each. Only 8,654 of these sets were sold and hundreds (if not thousands) of them have been broken up over the years. The original cost of these sets was only $6.75! Lot of 30 coins. Lot 1072		1837 Feuchtwanger Cent. PCGS graded MS-65. The finest example of this variety yet seen by your cataloguer! The strike is superb for the type, even down to the fine details of the feathers on the eagle (something that is rarely seen). The surfaces are lustrous, lightly toned, and absolutely original and choice. Feuchtwanger produced One and Three Cent pieces to show the benefits of his eponymous "composition" at a time when the U.S. Mint was concerned with the high costs of producing Large Cents. Unfortunately for the good doctor, he was just a few years too early -- it wasn't until 1856 that the Mint switched to a similar Copper-Nickel alloy for the new Small Cents. Lot 1077		Unique "White & Bale" Medal Trial Strike. c. 1834. MS-60 Plus. White metal, Baker 75C. 45mm. Obverse: Bust right of Washington, "GEORGE" at left, "WASHINGTON" at right. Reverse: Blank, with high rims. Published by Wright & Bale, whose imprint appears faintly on the lower left obverse. Bright and clean, with ample traces of original mint luster and a few, minor handling marks. A fabulous George Washington medal rarity and a certain highlight for any major collection. Lot 1078		Framed display of Eisenhower & Nixon Inaugural Items. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States, is chiefly remembered as the principal architect of the Allied invasion of Europe during World War II and perpetrating the ultimate defeat of Nazi Germany. As president, he ended the Korean War, but his two terms produced few legislative landmarks or dramatic initiatives in foreign policy. His presidency is remembered as a period of relative calm in the United States, and is often regarded with nostalgia by seniors today. The custom black and clear lucite display holds: a bronze inaugural medal showing both Eisenhower and his Vice-President, Richard Nixon, and dating to his second inauguration. Along with this is a ticket each for admittance to view the inauguration and attend the ball later that evening. Both are for the first inauguration, on January, 20, 1953. The bronze medal, issued under the authority of the 1957 inaugural committee, has distinguished joint portraits facing left, with names of the two principals on the reverse. The viewing ticket, in red ink, is for Row 1, in stand 10. Its reverse likewise with affable joint portraits flanking a rendering of the White House. The ticket for the ball is in blue and gold ink, with an admission price of $10.00 (probably half a week's wages, or more, for most people then), along with a 20% tax charge! All items finely preserved, the inaugural medal is mint with the viewing ticket having two small, trifling stains on the reverse. Width of largest ticket: 7-1/8". MERICA" above and "LABORATORY" below. Reverse: picture of the International Nickel Company with the name surrounding and "Dedicated 1964" below. Housed in a custom wooden box. Lot 1080		Two Nation of Celestial Space Gold Celestons, Prooflike Uncirculated. One is dated 1959, the other 1960. Each measures 13mm in diameter. Housed in a custom-made Capital Plastics holder. Thanks to the Interent and Mike Locke's page at www.calgoldcoin.com we can offer the following information about these interesting pieces: "1959 token struck in 0.900 fine gold by James Thomas Mangan for the "Nation of Celestial Space" (Celestia for short). Mangan laid claim to all of space in Jan 18, 1949. The obverse shows Ruth Mangan, James Mangan's daughter with "MAGNANIMITY" on the head band. Initially sold for $6.50 each, but the price was later raised to $10 each. See "Numismatic Scrapbook" Feb 1960, page 571 and "The Numismatist" Dec 2001 for more information." Lot of 2 coins.
