Lot 429
Edison, Thomas Alva (1847-1931) American inventor. Autograph Letter Signed ("Edison") in very dark pencil on tan paper, no place, no date, 2 separate pages, 8 x 5 in. Dated February 9 in another hand, c. mid 1920s. The letter seems to be intended for an executive in Edison's phonograph business. Edison writes critically of an employee, who must have been a sales supervisor. In part: "I am told Bailey has a number of demonstrating machines out on Complimentary. He denies it, yet my man got it from his own records. We use 3 machines to a salesman. He has 8 to 9 men 30 machines would be ample….He was told 2½ months ago we would not work Morristown yet he has not enough sense to turn them in….I think there are other bad things over there. Bailey seems to be without any ability or sense." Edison was known to be a demanding taskmaster. Three small hinges in left margins, else Fine. An interesting item from Edison's vast business empire.
Estimated Value $900 - 1,200.
