Lot 3342		1908. With Motto. Obverse Planchet Lamination. PCGS graded MS-63. The rippling of the metal in front of Miss Liberty's eye was caused by gas being trapped in the alloy. When the ingot was rolled flat, so was the bubble, creating a separation of the metal just below the surface. When the coin was struck, the bubble burst (or was at least accentuated), creating the unusual effect seen here. Lot 3345		1908-S. With motto. PCGS graded MS-67. Beautiful, even gold toning on both sides, with hints of greenish highlights near the outer rims. Well struck and nearly as fresh as the day this coin was struck. Stunning in appearance and just plain beautiful. Collectors of this series will recognize this for what it is -- one of the finest examples of the date and one of the most-well balanced examples a collector is likely to encounter in the entire series. PCGS reports 7 at this level, with four finer (all at the MS-68 level). Of the millions upon millions of $10 Indians that were produced during the run from 1907 to 1933, this remains as one of the finest! The With Motto variety was a reaction to President Teddy Roosevelt's removal of IN GOD WE TRUST from the back of the $10 gold pieces. Lot 3354		1911-D. PCGS graded MS-64 PQ. An impressive example of this tough date, graded recently, yet it looks like it might have another point going for it. Lovely, rich golden toning. A definite candidate for resubmission, especially considering the incredible rarity of Gems of this date. Pop 10 in MS-64, with only 3 in MS-65, and none finer. According to the PCGS Population Report, this is the second most difficult date to locate in this grade or higher, just a bit behind the 1920-S. Certainly, the mintage was very low in 1911 for the Denver Mint and, obviously, few were saved. There simply weren't enough collectors around then that cared about mintmarked coins, and saving rolls of coins was decades away from being fashionable (not that man y people collected $10 gold pieces by the roll, anyway). Lot 3358		1912-S. PCGS graded MS-65. For the connoisseur, we present a remarkable 1912-S Eagle in full MS-65 condition, certified as such by the world-class grading experts at PCGS. The luster on this piece is amazing and far superior to the lifeless, almost matte texture usually seen on this date. Both sides feature bold cartwheel luster where the light dances over the surfaces. Hints of orange and pink toning complete the picture, contributing to a very impressive level of eye appeal. This is an extremely popular series, although it takes much fortitude and money to enjoy it at the top levels. However, we can't think of a more pleasurable way to own this date than with the coin offered here. PCGS reports a mere 7 coins at this level, with only one coin finer (at the MS-66 level). Interestingly enough, Saint Gaudens' Indian Head design was originally intended for the Cent, was later auditioned for the Double Eagle, but ended up on the Eagle! Lot 3364		1914-S. PCGS graded MS-64. A nice, fresh-looking example of this condition-rarity, featuring a nice strike and and choice surfaces. Although this date is readily available in circulated grades, it becomes scarce in Mint State and rare at the MS-64 level. In MS-65, the 1914-S Eagle becomes a great rarity and none have been graded finer than MS-65 by PCGS. PCGS reports 65 at this level, with only 10 finer (all MS-65, as previously mentioned). The Indian Head motif was Saint-Gaudens' favored design for the $20 gold piece, but he was over-ruled by his benefactor, President Teddy Roosevelt, who preferred the striding image of Liberty. Interestingly enough, the sole example of an Indian Head $20 in gold (the former Judd-1776, now Judd-1905) was most likely created by Charles Barber! Lot 3365		1914-S. PCGS graded MS-64. A wonderful, orange-toned Gem with glittering luster on both sides. A true condition-rarity and one of the few dates in the series that is truly rare in MS-65. PCGS reports 66 coins at the MS-64 level, with only 10 finer (all at the MS-65 level).
