Lot 1492
1835 Capped Bust Half Dime. Small date, small 5¢. PCGS graded MS-67. Premium Quality. A stunning, pure white monster of an 1835 Half Dime. Hypnotic, creamy fields, a dangerously crisp strike, immaculate, virgin surfaces. We simply cannot imagine a finer example. That's the reality of this date, as well, because no 1835 Half Dime has been graded finer by PCGS. They've certified two of this variety in MS-67, plus two others of different varieties, making a total of 4 coins at this level (again) with none finer! (PCGS # 4285) .
Estimated Value $14,000 - 15,000.

Lot 1493
1837 Liberty Seated Half Dime. No stars, large date. PCGS graded MS-65. A well struck gem specimen with full hair definition on Liberty. The satiny mint surfaces are overlaid with natural warm tones favoring shades of gold. This two-year "no-stars" type is the most common of the two varieties for the year and therefore, makes the ideal coin to fit into a top grade type set.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,400.

Lot 1494
1838-O Liberty Seated Half Dime. No stars. NGC graded MS-63. Toned in a delightful blend of silver-gray and rose-gold speckles. This was probably one of the last coins struck from the dies, which by now have lots of extra flow lines and microscopic rust pitting. One of the finest examples known of the date -- NGC reports 2 at this level and only 4 finer (all MS-64).
Estimated Value $6,000 - 7,000.

Lot 1495
1838 Liberty Seated Half Dime. Stars, no drapery. NGC graded MS-65. A needle sharp strike. This stunning gem example exhibits deep electric blue iridescence around the periphery, while the centers are a lighter shade of lilac. Exceptional quality for the no drapery type and as such, will undoubtedly be well contested.
Estimated Value $1,400 - 1,500.

Lot 1497
1844-O Liberty Seated Half Dime. ICG graded MS-62. "Small O" variety. Dusky, silver-gray in color, with some touches of golden color at the rims. Rare in most grades, the 1844-O Half Dime is unpriced in Uncirculated in the 2003 edition of the "Redbook." Our recent experience with this date is the NGC graded MS-62 example we sold in our February 2002 "Benson II" sale (Lot 379) for $6,325.00.
Estimated Value $6,000 - 7,000.

Lot 1499
1849-O Liberty Seated Half Dime. MS-64. Deep, olive-gray toning, changing to light rose-colored iridescence near the rims. Just below the date, four of the denticles are a bright silver color and the rim below those is dark. Scarce in all grades, becoming rare in Mint State, but especially so in MS-63 and better condition. In fact, none have been graded finer than MS-64 by PCGS. Accompanied by an old, green-label PCGS insert graded "MS64." Rated Low R-6 in Mint State by Blythe.
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000.

Lot 1500
1859 Liberty Seated Half Dime. NGC reports 17 in this grade with 7 better. NGC graded Proof 66. An absolutely exquisite little gem. Boldly struck with full definition within the stars and Liberty's head and hair. This beauty has tremendous eye-appeal as the obverse is overlaid with natural violet, rose and blue iridescence, the reverse is lighter with shades of gold. Only 800 proofs were struck and this example must rank among the prettiest.
Estimated Value $4,800 - 5,200.
