Valentinian III, 425-455 AD. Gold Solidus (4.4 g), Ravenna mint, struck 430-445 AD. Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Valentinian right. Reverse: Emperor standing frontal, holding long cross and Victory on globe, foot on head of serpent with likeness of enemy; R V in field. RIC 2018. Well centered and boldly struck, with much residual luster. Extremely Fine.

  Lot of Three Provincial Roman Coins: Two Silver, One in Bronze, c. 81-135 AD. An AE 21 mm. of Domitian, from Balanea-Leucas, Syria: Laureate head left / Emperor holding spear or scepter, in quadriga right (RPC II 2036; SNG Cop. 305). Silver includes, Trajan, a Drachm of Bostra, Arabia: Laureate and draped bust right / Arabia frontal, looking left, camel behind. SNG ANS Palestine 1156. Also, a Hemidrachm of Hadrian, from Caesarea, Cappadocia: Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Nike advancing right, with palm branch and wreath, Year 4 (BMC Galatia, p. 62, 142). Lot of 3 coins. Coins average Fine.

  Imperial Rome, 2nd - early 4th century AD. Lot of Seven Coins: 5 AR's and 2 Bronzes. A good dealer lot, with fine material and some scarcer types. From the Antonine Era: an AR Denarius of Faustina the Younger, Fecunditas standing right, holding child (RIC 677); and an AE Stestertius of Crispina, Salus seated left, feeding snake arising from altar (RIC 672). From the Severans, three AR Denarii: "Divo Severo," Eagle on globe (RIC 191); Julia Domna, Cybele standing left, lion at feet (RIC 382); and Julia Maesa, Pudicitas seated left (RIC 268). Also, an AE 28 mm., of Gordian III and Tranquillina, of Markianopolis, Thrace: Busts face to face / Tetrastyle temple, Tyche standing frontal within (Pick I, 1192 var.). Last, an AR Argenteus of Diocletian, Rome mint: Laureate head right / Tetrarchs before camp with six turrets (RIC 40a). Lot of 7 coins. The sestertius with handsome deep olive patina; the Thracian AE with nice variegated olive to brown patina. The Faustina with superb stike and toning. The rest, well centered and good strikes. Crispina, Fine; rest Very Fine and better.
