Lot 556
1815 Capped Bust Quarter Dollar. . B-1. NGC graded MS-66. A magnificent coin that is a no nonsense gem at a glance, with stunning royal gold toning fading to darker blue at the rims. Bright luster in the fields, and free of all but the most trivial hairlines. Deeper shades on the reverse, with blazing sunset shades at the centers, and deep regal blues at the edges. One rim tap above the IC of AMERICA is noted for accuracy. Only 4 graded this high by NGC, and one other this high by PCGS, with a single coin graded higher by both services. Therefore, this is certainly one of the finest known of the date, and no doubt one of the most beautiful too. Bid accordingly.
Estimated Value $15,000 - 17,000.

Each should be inspected, the 1847 is noted as "very rare" in Breen, and the 1876-S has some spots on the reverse. Lot of 3 coins.

Lot 560
1853 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. Recut date, no arrows or rays. NGC graded MS-67. Bright white and lustrous with abundant mint flash throughout. The fields and surfaces show virtually no signs of handling, and this is a certainty as there is no toning for marks and ticks to hide behind. One tiny gold spot above the R in QUAR on the reverse. Boldly struck by the dies, with full radial lines on the stars, and deep folds on Liberty's drapery. NGC has only graded 2 coins this high, with a single coin graded higher. Long known as a rare date, a small hoard of mint state coins traces back to Harold Newlin, before 1883, and this may have come from that group. A superb example of the No Arrows variety, which shows the recut 53 clearly.
Estimated Value $10,000-UP.

Lot 561
1853 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. Arrows and rays. PCGS graded Proof 63. Here is an extreme rarity which is of inestimable importance. Breen guesses that 5 were struck in proof, on March 3, 1854, of those PCGS has graded 3 coins, this one as PR-63, and 2 higher. This coin is easily identifiable by a minor scratch below the date, and the mottled gray and gold tones on each side. The strike is amazing, the devices so full and complete the dies must nearly have shattered when striking this piece.
A foremost opportunity for the specialist, this coin has added desirability because it is a one year type coin. Therefore, any collector who demands first year of issue, or is collecting type coins must have an example of this date. With so few struck, and even fewer known today, there simply aren't enough to go around. An historic offering that should bring a strong price.
Estimated Value $27,500-UP.

Lot 563
1853-O Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. Arrows and rays. NGC graded MS-61. Deep gray toning on both sides and well struck. There are several minor die cracks on the obverse, one from the base of the 1 in the date through the lower arrowhead to the rim, another just left of the rock, from the rim to the center of the rock, a small one through the first four stars, another from her head to the star above, to the cap. On the reverse there is a tiny rim cud over the third T. Minor handling marks, mostly in the fields, as expected for the grade. This is a really rare date in mint state, this is the only graded as such by NGC, with just 6 graded higher.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.

Lot 564
1854 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. Arrows. NGC graded Proof 64. Deep gray in color and obviously a long treasured coin that has been shown off for many decades. The fields have minor hairlines and we see no other problems worthy of note. NGC has graded just 3 this high, with 5 graded higher. Perhaps a dozen or so were struck, and they are rarely offered for sale. This one is in NGC holder #335173-004.
Estimated Value $12,000 - 15,000.

Lot 566
1857 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. NGC graded Proof 66. Perhaps 40 were coined, of which maybe 20 survive in various proof grades. This one is one of the very best, it has deep blue and gray toning throughout with clean fields and devices. A few minor hairlines can barely be seen in the fields. NGC reports that only 3 have been graded this high, with none graded higher. PCGS has not graded any proofs this high, and only a single coin as PF-65. A superb coin for the early proof specialist, and an important early Philadelphia proof issue.

1857 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-64. Bright mint luster and with a nice cameo contrast from the fields to the frosted devices. Boldly struck and nearly a gem. Minor ever-present hailines and faint ticks in the fields, but this is a very nice coin overall.

Lot 568
1861 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-67. Presenting a wonder coin for your bidding pleasure! The surfaces are immaculate on the obverse, with only the faintest drift lines visible, and on the reverse a couple of very small ticks can be seen in the open fields above the eagle. What sets this coin apart is the magnificent rich toning that enhances the design. Deep blues and reds combine to set off the devices from the fields, and mint luster still shines forth from the fields beneath the colors. One of the finest graded by either service, with only 4 graded this high by NGC and 2 more by PCGS, neither has graded any higher. The strike is sharp and bold, and most of the stars show their radial lines. A coin not to be missed, so bid accordingly.

1866 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. With motto. PCGS graded Proof 65. Deep gunmetal blue and gray toning on both sides and perfectly struck, with needle sharpness on the stars and Liberty. This is the first year of issue with the reverse motto, and few are found in full gem condition today. This is the exception. The coin has excellent color and surfaces, although we do note trivial hairlines. PCGS has graded just 10 this high, with a single coin graded higher, so don't expect to locate a better one! Lot 575
1873 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. Arrows. NGC graded Proof 67 Eliasberg. This is one of the finest known examples of this date! Further, it is from the Eliasberg Collection Sale in 1997, which pedigrees back to John Clapp most likely. The coin is stunning, it boasts a delicate arc of blue toning on the left obverse and gold all around, similar on the reverse. As to the centers, they are frosty and white. NGC has only graded 3 this high, and none graded higher, similar at PCGS where they have graded one as PR-67, and none higher. Thus, it is virtually certain that this is one of the finest known of the date! Just 540 were struck, and few survive in top grades. If you demand the absolute finest, then take a look at this quarter.
Estimated Value $12,000 - 15,000.

1880 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 66. Blazing white frost on the devices and with deeply mirrored fields. A superb coin, just 25 have been graded this high by PCGS, with 16 graded higher. Further, this is a very rare coin, it employs the reverse used in 1872 (Type I, see Breen's Encyclopedia) and is quickly identified by the cut in the shield on the left side. Few survive with the Type I reverse, and perhaps a specialist would be interested in this magnificent gem.

1883 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66. One of the finest graded of the date, PCGS has awarded just 3 coins of this date MS-66, and there are none graded higher. The toning is deep and old, with steel gray at the centers which fades to deep blue around the periphery, balanced on both sides. Fully struck on the devices, with each star bold. A low mintage date, boasting 14,400 struck for commerce, this certainly one of the very top half dozen survivors. If you demand the finest, take a look at this superb coin.
