Lot 490
Morgan Dollar. 1891. PCGS graded Proof 68. This is the highest grade given to any 1891 Proof Morgan Dollars by PCGS, there are no others. NGC has only graded two this high, also with none higher. Therefore, this is certainly tied for the very finest in existence; and one can see why at a glance. Pristine surfaces with boast a delicate rose to taupe color on the obverse and similar on the reverse. Both sides have an untoned donut at the center of original fresh mint brightness. A scarce date, and seldom available in full gem, and nearly impossible to obtain this nice. In a PCGS Prestige holder with the pedigree noted on the holder as being from the California Proof Collection.

Lot 491
Morgan Dollar. 1892. NGC graded Proof 67. A superb gem Proof of this scarce date, NGC has only graded 3 coins this high, with a mere 3 coins graded higher. That makes this coin well up in the Condition Census for the date. Superbly made with deep mirroring in the fields and highly frosted devices. All is graced with a faint gold tone around the periphery. There is a very tiny and unimportant planchet flake on the extreme edge of the coin on the outer rim just above the ME of AMERICA.
The reason most of these coins are found in lower grade is the fact that the delicate mirror fields seem to virtually attract contact marks, hairlines or other detriments. Somehow this coin was set aside and didn't suffer the usual indignities that mar nearly all of the proofs from this issue. If you have been searching for a truly high end gem Proof, then be sure to mark a high bid on this lot.

Lot 498
Morgan Dollar. 1895. NGC graded Proof 67. We are proud to present the "King of the Morgan's" the 1895 in superb Gem Proof condition. Not only is this the date that everyone needs, and no one seems to have, but this coin is one of the top handful known. Only 7 have been so graded by NGC, with a scant 4 graded higher. It has long been assumed that the original mintage of 12,000 coins struck for circulation somehow all ended up in the melting pot in 1918 when most of the surplus Morgan Silver Dollars were melted under the Pittman act. Therefore, collectors who wanted a complete date set had to purchase one of the 880 Proofs. That has keep decades of high price pressure on these Proofs.
For years, Morgan Silver Dollars have been one of the most popular series with collectors, many people retain a handful from circulation, or purchased some from the General Services Administration a few decades ago. Attend any small or large coin show and virtually every dealer has Morgan Dollars, which are common in every state of preservation, including Mint State. Many collectors begin with a date set, but are nearly always stumped when it comes to paying the big money for an 1895. As collectors advance in wealth and begin to round out their date sets, the 1895 always seems to be the one that everyone needs, but no one has. For every one of these that turn up, most go away without ever obtaining one of these rarities. Wise collectors know that this is a "blue chip" coin that will always be in feverish demand, especially in such a rarified grade as Proof 67. One of the great American classics in pristine condition.
Free of hairlines or other detriments, superbly struck and preserved in every regard. In NGC holder #668476-003.

Morgan Dollar. 1895-S. PCGS graded MS-65. A stunning coin of this rare date that is almost never found in full gem condition. As nice as this date ever is found, with only 16 graded this high by NGC, with a single coin graded higher. Untoned and frosty, with excellent fields and devices that show none of the usual bagmarks or other detriments. This is one of those dates that wasn't found in large quantities and what few turned up in the Treasury hoards were very bagmarked and only qualify for lower Mint State grades. Here is one of the very few gems that will excite the advanced numismatist.
