Lot 2410
Chile. One Peso 1822 Santiago FI. KM-82.2, Eliz-87. A simply wondrous example of the ever popular Volcano type silver pesos of Chile struck from 1817 to 1834. On the obverse, a craggy ridged mountain volcano spews forth a ball of fiery smoke, while on the reverse is seen a liberty column topped by a shooting star. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated, exhibiting an excellent strike with fields covered in frosty mint luster and just a hint of light golden tone. Truly Rare in this state of preservation and among the finest one will ever encounter. We dare say that a date set of the volcano type pesos in condition similar to this coin would be more difficult to assemble than a set of US Bust Dollars in like condition. Perhaps a gallant collector will take up the challenge, but no matter, whoever wins this beauty will be utterly delighted. NGC graded MS-63.

China. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Medallion Plaque. Ca. 1925, embossed silver, 95 grams. Overall size, 99mm x 121mm (3 7/8" x 4 3/3"), with a 77.5mm central circle portraying a masterful half length bust of Dr. Sun in western civilian clothes, suit, vest, tie and hat. The powerful portrait is rendered with great sensitivity, and though regretfully unsigned, was obviously created by an artist of great talent. The plaque was at one time likely mounted in a frame with the center roundel displayed behind a protective matte. Lightly toned Extremely Fine and of the greatest rarity.
Sun Yat-sen (born November 12, 1866, died March 12, 1925) Chinese revolutionary and political leader known as the Father of Modern China, had an important role in the fall of the Ching Dynasty, the end Chinese Empire in 1911 and the birth of the Republic of China.
